I'm certainly not against folks playing music whilst camping, in fact the live sessions we've had have been really enjoyable. I'd be reasonably certain that most members of MySwag are very considerate of others.

Agree 100% with this.

We don't play music while camped either, preferring the sounds of the bush, we also think that playing music tends to stop conversation, also the live music we have had the pleasure of listening to (thanks snow) was very enjoyable and as long as this doesn't annoy other campers I don't see a problem, in fact I think it stimulates conversation in the group.

Keep it up Snow :cup:

I use this one... for work and play

its awesome... plays from my ipod every day I drive buses round sydney and then when I am away, its great.

charges from 240 volts or ciggy plug.

10 hours playback on its own rechargeable battery

great sound and better still its got a 2 year replacement warranty. This means if it plays up, ya bring it back and they give ya a new one. I go to Dick Smiths and they give me a new receipt every time so it has two years start every time I return it... so far its been returned about 4 times over the last 3 years of playing at least 50 hours a week

highly recommended

Where will I find the ciggy connection for the unit?

I find it amusing when people ask a Q about what music player etc people use when camping and we get the, we don't listen to music as we listen to the bush etc, etc, etc. I don' think any sensible MySwagger ( look at the generation of Swaggers, no offense intended to younger Swaggers) would be a dis-respectful camper and have music blaring at 1000db. Everything is a compromise and respect of others no matter the how different your views are? It's the same BS we get wrt Generators...... ;D

Well in that case, we would use the car stereo, why spend more money on something else when you already have a device in your car :-*

yeah but then you have the volume louder to hear it by the camp fire and in a setting where there are other campers its not ideal plus its great with small kids down low as back ground music when they are going to sleep and my darn ute turns the radio off after a certain amount of time unless I turn the key to enable accessories

This is getting a little side tracked from the original Q but if people choose or choose not to play music, that's their choice. As long as it is respectful then really, who gives a toss. More important things in life to be worried about.

PS: Even if it is a little louder than you would choose in a camp near by, as long as they turn off at a respectful hour, so be it. Being the party pooper isn't cool..... ;D

I also have one of these:  Logitech and it works great.  I got it for my birthday and dock the Ipod into it.  I really do need to learn how to make playlists as the boys eyes roll and you get groaning on occassion.  Anyways, I think they are a great investment for portable camping music as I can use it at camp or by the swimming hole.

I use a iphone 4 or the asus eeepad with local songs, then grooveshark for all the songs I don't have. Plus internet radio from both if needed.

The eeepad is great to hand around for people to choose songs, great with the guys when playing poker etc...

I use a Creative D100 bluetooth speaker (runs on batteries, or 12v/240v with adapter/s). This pairs to both and just a press of the button switches between them. Batteries have lasted over 20+ hours so far.

So much better than a dock, can have iphone in pocket 10+ metres from speaker, control volume, change songs etc..

http://au.store.creative.com/speakers/creative-d100/4-19228.aspx

The D100 is the best $100 I have spent for music listening related stuff. (besides this for the jeep http://www.usaspec.com/product.php?ProductID=21 )

I use one of these: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/A1478/thomson-portable-ipod-cd-player

It works from 240v or 8 x C size batteries, except I pulled it apart and soldered some leads on it with a plug so I can connect it to a cigg. socket. Works a treat. It is a cd player, ipod dock, am/fm radio and will accept other MP3 players.

Sometimes use the ute wireless.  Doesn't happen much as it stops the kids from hearing me yell.  Get away from the fire.  Leave the mans' dog alone.  Close the bloody fridge.  Get away from the fire.  Eat your tea.  Get away from the fire. Take your boots off in the camper.  Don't look at me in that tone of voice.  Get away from the fire. Are your ears painted on?

I really do need to learn how to make playlists.
Kit_e

That's so easy.
In iTunes select File, New Playlist and it will appear on list of Playlists on the left of the window as "untitled playlist".   You can rename it (eg "Favourite Polka Tunes").   Now just drag and drop songs or albums from the Music Library to that Playlist.
When you synch your iPod, select the playlist(s) you want to take away.   iTunes will move the required songs to the iPod if they aren't already on the iPod.   (It doesn't make multiple copies of songs if they appear on more than one list.)
I like to shuffle mine for variety, otherwise they tend to play in alphabetical order!

That's so easy.

I knew someone would know!  Thanks so much Patr80l!  It will save a vast amount of eye rolling and that annoying groaning for sure, though I doubt it will work 100%.  Calling it "Polka Tunes" doesn't sound like a bad idea either  >:D  At least they won't continually be man handling my Ipod, searching for those songs beaten to death on the radio.  Now to put the "beaten to death on the radio" tunes in there for the boys.

Just another thought for those without an Ipod dock, but having an Ipod ... I used to connect it to my Pioneer stereo at home via the microphone jack and earphone plug.  Still worked a treat as you could use the music, but didn't charge it.

There is always a solution if you look hard enough or ask.

For those people with the Logitech PureFi units - can you please confirm for me that they can run off a 12V cig lighter plug? Looking at the specs, none of them list it.

My original plan was to pick up a cheapie iPhone dock from JB, and then knock up my own power adapter for it - most of them seem to run off 5V DC, so it shouldn't be too hard. But if there's an easier option of just buying one of the Logitech units off the shelf, then that's probably the way I'll go!

Thanks!
Matto :)
