I have been looking at what music 'device thingy' I should have in the camper to play music with. I am thinking of using an Ipod (save carrying heaps of CD's) but most docks run off 240V only. I know I could fit a car stereo into the camper but want the flexibility bring the music to the common drinking spot, rather than blasting it from where the camper is set up. Any idea's?

We have our songs on a SD card plugged into the Nuvi. Hit play & tune any radio [within 10m or so]to the designated frequency & out comes the music.

Then again, we usually prefer the "sounds of the bush".

We never have music playing when we camp, except on the drive to and from. Have been thinking of getting a dock for an iPod, in case we're ever camped somewhere where our music wouldn't intrude on the serenity of others.

We've got a Logitek thingy for the ipod that cost around $100 from JB HiFi.
Great sound (doesn't sound tinny) and runs on AA's or 240.

HP Laptop - music, movies, internet, email, tethered DSLR shooting, photo processing and viewing.  Nice all rounder when not in the car.

We have a legend MP3 player that has an internal 512mb storage and can hold a SD card. Sounds great when working outside or in the shed but has never made it camping with us.

we only use the music box when camping in secluded spots so not to intrude on others serenity.. the kids also like the radio left on low when sleeping while we burn the midnight oil and have a few late night bevies around the fire

I use this one... for work and play

its awesome... plays from my ipod every day I drive buses round sydney and then when I am away, its great.

charges from 240 volts or ciggy plug.

10 hours playback on its own rechargeable battery

great sound and better still its got a 2 year replacement warranty. This means if it plays up, ya bring it back and they give ya a new one. I go to Dick Smiths and they give me a new receipt every time so it has two years start every time I return it... so far its been returned about 4 times over the last 3 years of playing at least 50 hours a week

highly recommended
Every where I go I bring pleasure. Sometimes it's when I arrive... but usually its when I leave!

We have a JVC Car Radio that will control an Ipod and has a USB Port as well, mounted under the Bed Base and controlled by a IR Remote Control. 4" Cube Speakers are mounted under the Bed Base or can be re-located to inside the tent or outside in the Annex. We are always mindfull of the volume in regards to other campers.

We have a TDK Icubic that we plug the ipod into. It runs off 12v (we had an adaptor from the last radio we had that died). Its nice and compact, and we can get the radio on it as well. It has a sleep function which is really handy when you want to go to bed but still listen. It also came with a remote.

http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/i-pod-accessories/docks-cradles/bpnBIGW_0000000098888/icubic-ipod-dock

Ours is not pink however - ours is just black.

Its not often we camp anywhere near other people so we usually play music just about every night. We are normally in bed by 8.30pm - even earlier if its cold!

Our camper has a car stereo fitted with a couple of speakers built into the step at the end of the bed.  I can't remember the last time it was used though.

Whilst I have a Logitec IPOD dock which is very handy we also have car CD/IPod player with internal and external speakers fitted to the Jayco. Yes, I too appreciate the quiet and listening to nature but also there are times I do like a few back ground tunes whilst icy cold bevies are being consumed. The other thing is simple ABC radio for sport/news when away and can't forget Macca on Sunday's......

We don't have anything but the car system - we didn't hear about the Japanese earthquake/tsunami until Monday ;D
