The 5.5m giant shocked and delighted a boatload of tourists when he surged out of the Adelaide River, 100km south of Darwin, this week.

Photographer Katrina Bridgeford captured the moment, and said her 11-year-old son Dylan had two words for the awesome sight: "Holy crap!"



Holy Crap? I'd say a touch more than that - check the mouth size alone!
If that thing wants in the boat, you aint stoppin' it :)

He's massive alright.

Not really sure coaxing these things out of the water beside the boat is such a good idea.  What happens when the next bloke comes along in his little fishing tinnie and the big jumping handbag thinks it's time for lunch again? :o

its lovely of the bloke at the back of the boat there to have brought along a toothpick for the croc! Not sure what else he thinks he could do with it!

I will be on that boat trip in September. If any of the kids play up on the way I will show them that picture and threaten to hang them off the side of the boat...lol >:D

Hi,

  Hmmm! I have mixed thoughts on conditioning large reptiles to associate boats with food.

I have cancelled any kayaking plans for exploring Northern rivers.

surely thats been doctored. All the big lizards I've seen would be too lazy to do that and if one that size hit the boat it'd be snacking on more than dead chickens...

I reckon it's doctored, was my first impression straight away. reasons:

1. I reckon those people would be absolutely cr@ppin' their daks if that thing jumped that high that close and they all look WAY too calm.

2. I don't think they do croc feeding from that sort of boat, they are more regulated than you would think, even in the NT.

3. I'm pretty sure that boat and that picture look something like I've seen before when he was feeding a White Breasted (or Bellied, same thing) Sea Eagle.

4. The doctoring doesn't look that "real" to me either.

Sorry to burst your bubbles! Have a look at these vids, much more plausible that the Sea Eagle has been replaced by that croc.

Mate they do the bloody same in the Daintree river, I recon that the photo is real. S#!^s me to pieces these guys feeding crocks from tourist boats, some one will get taken out of their tinnie one day by a tourist feed crock and watch them bast!@#s back away and not accept any blame.

If that's real then that croc is over 6 metres long and he'd be too big and heavy to leap that far out of the water ... Photoshop is a wonderful thing !!

I've been on the Adelaide River croc cruise in the NT.  Didn't see that particular one (thankfully) but these things do get this large.  If you've ever seen "Sweetheart" in the NT museum you'll know they DO get that bigger ... and bigger.  They shot Sweetheart on the crossing over to Arnham Land.

there is another you tube link with that boat i think croc is 6 metres long it attacked there outboard then he fed it off a stick , and i a gree i dont like the idea of training them up to associate food with boats  espeacially when i,m looking at a 3.55 metre tinnie to buy  need a bigger boat ???

Speaking from experience as i was a tour guide at the local Koorana Croc farm here on the cap coast some years ago. These animals are truely amazing and despite their enormous size they are extremely powerful and can propell themselves quite some distance out of the water. I use to hand feed a 16 foot male weighing @ 1000 kgs armed only with a 6 foot pole and a quarter chicken ( without fries) Not a lot smaller than the photo shown earlier. I can honestly say that i **** my pants for the first 8-10 times i did that. Is extremely hard to describe the feeling of a monster croc standing in front of you only 8 inches from your face and it takes the chicken from you that is dangling from your outstretched arm high above your head with its front feet still planted firmly on the ground knowing the crowd behind you ( behind 2 fences ) have all taken a step back as they **** themselves.  Lots of good memories i have to say. Had big maxi walker in one day on my tour that was very entertaining.

A couple of pics from the old days when i had hair . the croc in the picture which was only about 600 kgs and 13 ft long actually killed a keeper quite some years before when he was mowing the grass ( not at the farm)


My boy in the picture  is taller than me now doesn't time fly.

I'm no expert, but surely a croc that big would have made a much bigger splash coming out the water.................

Also the croc appears to have missed the bait...............WTF's with that???

Can't comment on the authenticity of the original photo but seen the same thing on the Adelaide river. Even if it was doctored looks great.

I want to know what happens when the croc catches the boat on its way down. I'd imagine that croc would easily be able to sink the side of a boat, and that isn't even a tinny. I am surprised tourism is allowed like that

A fisherman was attacked by a croc in April this year on the Adelaide River.  The croc jumped out of the water and attacked him in his tinny.  He poked its eyes to get it to let go.  It was late at night and his mate was asleep in the back of the tinny and didnt wake!  He didnt believe his mate until he saw the damage to his shoulder / arm.  No chance our boat will ever enter the adelaide river.

Sweetheart ending up drowning when they were trying to remove her from the Finnis River.  A great read if anyone is interested, she had a dislike of boat motors and attacked them, she never attacked any of the swimming fisherman after she attacked their motors  :cup:
