New bog rules in WA
« on: July 09, 2011, 08:02:13 PM »
Have just read some disturbing news from WA regarding digging a hole and burying you morning glory, it seems that it is now becoming a thing of the past, as some of the Shires and stations are not letting you on free camping spots unless you have a porter potty. So in the future if you havent got a enviro dunny with you things could get very difficult to make a deposit so it might just be well worth checking on before you travel to WA.                   REGARDS SNOWMAN

Hi,
recently our 4wd club did a clean-up and shrub clearing at a free camping site on the East Coast of Tas (Friendly Beaches)

Now there are toilets provided there, not brilliant, but adequate.

The amount of 'doings' and 'bush daisies' we came across at the back of some of the camp-sites was, shall we say, exceedingly not pleasant. It is situations like this that I imagine is causing the push for 'self-contained' camping by those who have to deal with the unpleasantness left behind.

cheers

Noticed over the last fiew years that alot of the stations demand a chemical toilet, of some sort.
I think it is a good idea as all you need is a bucket and some chemical and preferably a seat on the bucket. And Buckets are bloody handy when at camp. :police:

There is a couple popular camp sites we use to go on Yorke Peninsula in S.A, where if you walked 5m from the campsite into the bush and just out of view of anyone there wasn't a piece of ground that hadn't been overturned.  Some people clearly couldn't even be bothered digging a hole, with turds and toilet paper scattered everywhere.

So yeah, you can understand why some shires and councils are clamping down.

Possibly another use for the famous Speewa's Pre Dug Fire Pit. Perhaps dropping them in the bush instead of on the road might lead to less of a spike in the "Unusual" road deaths category ;D

As some may be aware I work for NSW NPWS and in our camp sites with toilets, you find landmines everwhere ( sometimes even in front of the seat)including sites close to the toilets and this would be one of the more discusting things you have to deal with because it seems so unnecessary, You probably need to work at a camp ground to believe some of the things people do. ??? ???

Hi,
   that is just WRONG!
It is disturbing that such a mess must have come from more than just one deviant individual.

What's wrong with Shitting in a shopping bag, throwing the paper in it and disposing of it with your usual rubbish?   Nothing.  We do it quite often.  Who needs a chemical toilet?

I don't really see the problem. Unfortunately it comes down to the lowest common denominator. I guess I will be investing in a chemical toilet

Please do all those that use or service hybrid or composting toilets a favour if you do buy a porta loo get a biodegradable solution , the formaldehyde based ones that have been around for decades are what mucks up these toilets and makes them stink and formaldehyde makes it difficult to get the system back into balance, We will be looking to buy a chemical toilet at some stage but we will get a biodegradeable solution to put in it

Had a mate who cleaned a shopping centre...  his worst area... the ladies loos.  Initially he couldn't believe what was stuck to the roof and walls regularly.  Some people are worse than animals.

There's a few threads on here about using home brand napisan in your portaloo. Cheap, has worked fine for us so far and is biodegradable. Same active ingrediant as biomagic at a fraction of the cost.

I brought one of these (20 Litre), for my daughter to use while we went camping.

Works well, but I wouldnt put the toilet roll where they have it in the pic, cause if it gets wet, it doesnt work!!  >:(

Only downside, is that it needs a base on it, as it is just a bit short!!
Found that a couple of 4x2 made into a rectangle, with boards over the top. Makes this about the height of a normal toilet!!

Only brought this brand new for $99 from the local Mitre 10 store on special.

Thanks
