Hmmm - interesting! I've been wanting a baby saw for a while, but haven't been willing to pony up the $350 for a "proper" one. This might be worth a look. Thanks Christian!

Thanks!

bloke in our club has an electric chainsaw. Runs off cordless drill batteries.
Brilliant campsite chainsaw for firewood and stuff. Carrys 2 batteries, gettin a few hours out of each (depending on use) and charges off the inverter if need be. people laughed (me included) until we saw the saw in action up at Lovicks Hut.

To be 100% honest I cant remember. :( I think he may have bought it from USA

But I do know he could have sold 2-3 of em. Like me he hates the petrol smell throughout the car while driving.

Interesting. In the last tool catalogue we received at home, I was wondering about the viability of the battery-powered packs that the big names are doing. 18v rechargeable battery packs that run drills (normal, and hammer drills!), circular saws, angle grinders, you name it - they've got it in a cordless option.

Got to admit, I'm still wary of cordless tools mainly from a "how long does the battery last" point of view - not in use, but in terms of years before it's dead and you need a brand new battery. My experience with old tech battery drills was that you bought an expensive cordless drill, and two years later you needed to buy a brand new battery pack for it. I'm sure the technology has moved on from then, but it's always just left me a bit wary of cordless power tools.

Interesting option though. Would certainly be the quieter option compared to firing up a little 2-stroke chainsaw at a nice quiet camp.

Matto Aside - when we were camping last, some bloke must have had a new chainsaw that he was desperate to try out. After a couple of hours of hearing chainsaw noises, a ute packed with wood came driving through the camp, offering free firewood to anyone who wanted some. Champion! So, of course, we took some off his hands. However, on closer inspection it seems that some people don't realise that still-living trees don't make the best target for chainsaws, or firewood...

Thanks!
Matto :)

Ryobi sell a chainsaw in their one+ range. I almost bought one last week for some small gardening jobs around the house. Ended up getting an electric Makita job (corded).

I was dubious how long the battery would last on the corless one.

I've got other Ryobi One+ gear (drill and gardening sheers) so already have two batteries.
The Ryobi Corless Electic Chainsaw comes with one 18v lithium battery and charger. Bunnings were selling it for $199.

Given the positive comments above I may re-consider my purchase.

The white/grey + orange products are the old style ni-cad batteries which are notorious for 'memory'. The yellow/green + dark grey products are the lithium ones. That is the ONLY difference between the two ranges (and colour of course).

How do you go with spare parts for your $98 and are you going to get ream'd by a dealer later ?

The Huski at $299 is great value for a brand name quality chainsaw.

Lack of maintenance is what kills chainsaws, brand name or not.  This is a good investment if it's looked after.  Will last for years.

The catalogue says "mighty clearance sale" on sale from the 29th June to 10th July.

I bought a no name brand from mitre10 4 years ago and it gets used for camping most winters, now I have learnt to sharpen the chain it cuts well.

Your average replacement chain costs around $50, so the chainsaw only actually costs $48!
Probably worth a punt!

Go elsewhere, local mower shop makes me up a chain for 16" bar for $15-20.

Here for a good time, not a long time!
