On some other forums they talked abut this metho heater and reckoned it was a good one.

I had a Rinnai gas heater for years. They are great and very safe. Not too keen on using one in a pop top. It is illegal to install a gas heater in a bedroom!

I was a bit disappointed today. Decided to give my genny a run while I was mowing the lawn. My Honda EU20i runs the aircon no worries but if you flick it to heat with the remote, the heater trips the overload cutout after a few minutes. Might have to follow this thread a bit more closely now....   :'( :'(

I bought a 2005 mate, the heater was not fitted. I am happy to make do for a while and then plan to upgrade to a 2009 or 2010. There has been some good ones around at the moment. I wanted to make sure the KK was for me before jumping in and going for gold. (30k was enough, couldn't bring myself to spend $45k+ when I wasn't sure it would suit the family) But now I know what I know mate I am saving my pennies.

Know any one who wants to but a great 2005 model??................I could upgrade over the winter break.........LOL

Did you fit the Diesel heater to your CT??

Be carefull what type of heater you use in a confined space! There are reports every couple of years of people dying from Carbon Monoxide poisoning because they slept in a tent with a heater burning.

They go to sleep & never wake up!

You will love it mate. We had a good look at a new KK (2 hours worth) before we bought our second handie. It has the Diesel hot water and shower fitted. We tried it out and the water was hot in a few seconds at the sink, it was very quiet and I couldn't detect any fumes. You will love it.

I want to buy second hand as my limit would be $45k. You can get a new one for that money but it would be the basic LE (not that theirs much wrong with them). For that money second hand I can get a 2009 with all the fruit, electric/hydraulic discs, fox shocks, all the awnings, even some Platinum's ( costing 60K +). Next year.


I need to sort out the tug first and finish praticing with this one.

that water / heater must have been abit preheated already was it?
from cold it takes about 5 minutes on mine and a mates KK, from when you press the start button to having nice hot water at the sink,. you can smell the diesel on start up if the wind is blowing towards you, but once running it's not really noticable at all.

Yep - it's not the risk of fire, it's the build-up of carbon monoxide that does it - and it's not something you notice. And not something you can say afterwards 'well we did it for years without any problems...'

There is a goldmine waiting to be tapped for whoever comes up with a 12v (maybe inverter) powered electric radiator that doesn't consume 1000+ watts to do a decent job.

I have that exact model (eberspacher airtronic D2 diesel air heater) and it works great. Another Quantum owner has a pic of a thermometer showing 29C inside and -2C outside.

When you first turn it on, it runs at high speed (there are 4 speed levels) until it reaches the set temperature and then it winds down to  maintain that temp. There is a bit of a jet engine like sound when on high speed, but once up to temperature it sound just like a fan in the background.

Mate it would have been less than a minute. You could smell it when it first started, but it didn't smell like Diesel (Was a strange smell) and then once it was running I couldn't smell it. We were inside a shed, it wasn't pre-heated as we unpacked it etc and he didn't hit the start button until we asked about how the heater worked etc. It was a brand new 2011 model.

Pretty impressive.

The only trouble with the heaters ( all you sooks !! ;D ) is that when you use them once, you are forever "soft"..... ;D  you'll never go back to being normal  ;D

I found after even using a small heater that attaches to a gas bottle, the whole tent becomes VERY warm....even stifling !!  ( and no, I didn't run it while we slept, just for 15mins for the "soft" missus to get out of bed )

And yes, she does nag me sometimes if its cold, but I tend to ignore her most of the time !! ( its almost automatic after 30yrs of marriage  ;D )
