CT heating
« on: June 16, 2011, 07:51:25 PM »
Hey all .....

With winter well and truely upon us, I was wondering what people did for heating in there CT on a winters night?

I know nothing beats a nice blazing fire, but when you head into the CT and hit the "farter" how do you keep toasty warm?

A nice warm doona? Hot water bottles? Something else?

Im Gunna get the missus out winter camping if it kills me! (and it probably will ... lol)

Cheers Chippy :D

If we are 4 star camping then the fan heater plugged in at the powered site is OK.

There is a thread asking a similar question relating to Jayco.  It depends whether you are free camping or powered.  Powered is easy use a blow heater....free camping a little more difficult.  We recently purchased a small butane heater that we will use to warm the trailer up before going to sleep.  For obvious reasons we won't be running it whilst sleeping.

Hi mate, silly question. Did you press the search button up the top of the page between 'help' and 'profile'?

Always use that search button. For some reason the one in the top right yields unexpected results... ie only searches on the current page you are on rather than the whole forum.  ???

EDIT;

We have one of these, actually we have two, one stays at home, we free camp and we also run the heater all night, our decision, tents are pourous, different story if you have a van though.

Here it is, if it's knocked over it turns off, if it runs out of gas (that's not enough gas to get a flame) it turns off.

We have one of these, actually we have two, one stays at home, we free camp and we also run the heater all night, tents are pourous, so a build up of carbon dioxide isn't possible, different story if you have a van though.

Here it is, if it's knocked over it turns off, if it runs out of gas (that's not enough gas to get a flame) it turns off.

You run a gas heater in a tent all night while you sleep?????? Not sure I'd be advocating that as the "done thing" personally. Don't want to be a nanny, but that's even stretching my thrillseeker tendencies!

I'm sure there was a news story a few years back of a young family that had suffocated and died from using a gas heater in a closed tent. Could this be a difference between canvas and nylon/synthetic tents?

I just make sure the diesel tank is full and turn the heater on to the desired temperature...

We once camped in a small town in NSW called Cassilis (spelling?) It was so cold that the kids hot water bottles froze and the gas and water in the trailer also froze. It was the coldest that I have ever been and we were wearing thermals and had -10 degree sleeping bags. When purchasing our new trailer we decided that the diesel heater option was a must.

Be nice if you could buy a 'box' with the truma e2400 in it that can easily be moved from CT to CT. I.e, connect the gas, 12v lead, pop the hot air tube into the CT (in mine it would be via the zip at the bottom for electrical cords etc to come in through the tent wall).

That would be great.

I use an electric blow heater ($20) and my Honda eu20i genny when camping in the winter with the family and kids. Works great.

If you don't like the sound of my generator then don't camp next to me.......LOL
