Faulty inverter I presume???

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280548208226&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I got one of these 600w delivered the other day. Thought I would connect it up and see how it goes. Positive to positive and negative to negative. Connected it to the battery, plugged in the pc switched on the switch looked at the pc still running on battery power. switched it off and on again still the same.

Connected a 520w jig saw switched it on again. Still nothing. It seems fairly straight forward to connect. I did try it on 2 batteries. One was in the camper and the other was the 2nd battery in the car. Now, am I doing something wrong or are my suspicions that it is faulty correct? Is there anything I should check?

Have emailed seller today so waiting to see the reply. Hopefully will get sorted straight away as I am off next week for 6 weeks.

Hi IG,
I have one of these and it works well.

Have you checked/rechecked the basics.. that the red battery lead is attached to the pos terminal on the battery and to the reddish screw fitting on the back of the unit. Same visa vi with the black lead.

If connected ok, then there are two lights on the front panel next to the switch, green and red.
When you switch it on, with a load connected like a 240v light, ... do either of the red or green lights illuminate??

This is not a solution to your problem just note after reading you plugged in a jigsaw.

An electric motor needs about 7 times the running current to start. You would need a lot bigger inverter to run power tools.

If you get your inverter going that is not a bad price.

I have the same unit by another brand and it works fine, never given any trouble whatsoever.
When you turn the 12vdc off, does it make a short high pitched squeal?

I assume this is the electronics discharging. Proves 12vdc getting to the unit workings.
In any event it's new. Send it back.

Buy another from Supercheap while you wait as turnaround may not be quick enough (or at all depending on the seller.)
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Sometimes these beasties need to be turned on before connecting a load. Any life when turned on without anything plugged in? Should be lights of some sort.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will try it again today and see how I go.

Silvo, No serviceable fuse of what I can see on the outside

AB, there is a red and green light on the front. Green light lights up when I switch it on.

Grant,  I plugged in a laptop initially without any joy.

Jon, I recall a squeal when disconnecting the unit from the battery.

Might try a light connected to it and see.

Ok, just tried it again. Definantly not working.

Green light comes on saying there is power. Used a table lamp to test with a 40w globe. Nothing.

Now we wait for the seller.
