Just buggerd my maf sensor
« on: June 12, 2011, 04:52:15 PM »
Been reading about cleaning your maf sensor (mass air flow sensor) on a few forums so me being me thought i would give it a go. Took the sensor out got a rag and a small screwdriver and poked the rag in every orifice i could find  :'(  Replaced the sensor feeling proud of my achievement and went for a test drive. Bugger Patrol would,nt pull the skin of a rice pudding.NOW thought i would do more research OH OK never touch the sensor with rags or cotten buds spray with maf cleaner or electrical contact cleaner.A very expensive lesson rang local Nissan dealer $331.10 Nizzbits $250.00 but will have no vehicle for a few days living 20km out of town is a bit of a pain (no public transport)  Swambo is not happy. :-[ :-[

Bugger, I'm not a fan of oiled filters for this reason as they can leave a residue on the MAF.
I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go…

I cleaned mine with electrical cleaner and a cotton bud, 3-4 months ago. I went very steady with both. Put it back in and yeah, it worked and I would say I picked up a few percent in power, but had my heart in my mouth to see if it was going to work or not. Sorry to hear you need a new one, but think on the bright  side, extra power/torque etc with the new sensor.

Not sure on the MAF sensor of the Nissans however is it possible tht you fitted it back the wrong way around, i did this on a vehicle with a very expensive and embarrasing lesson learnt

Thats not good to hear. I just use electrical contact cleaner on ours. Spray it on and let it dry and she is good to go.

Also they only fit in one way.

Dont use electrical cleaner as it can leave a residue.
Specialist MAF cleaner is not expensive compared to the sensor.
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Mate, although that MAF on flea bay looks and sounds like its a genuine part, i would do ur research, i would hate to c write another post saying that it didnt work.

My choice would be to pay the extra and get a genune part from nissan, at least this way u r covered in the event it dosent work etc, I try and by genuine when ever possible, and given the part and wat it does for ur engine i would go genuine.

Just my thoughts, and very sorry to hear about ur situation, nothin worse the doin a bit of diy on the tug and problems arise.

Swanny
