Our Cameron Camper doesn't have guy ropes, even if it is windy! ;D

I just go with the tripping over the ropes (after a few beers) ;D the commando roll is quite good its all a part of camping like banging your shins on the drawbar or nealy peeing yourself trying to open the zipper in the morning

I don't bother, I'm always the last awake so if someone trips over a guy rope at our camp after I'm asleep then they probably shouldn't be there and if I trip over them it means I'm well and truely tanked as I should of known where there are.  ;D

Hi,
the kids have a Black Wolf tent with reflective bits in the guy lines.

Very effective, but it does require a torch to see them.

Not sure if rope is available with that built in, but it shouldn't be too hard to jury rig.

cheers

I've got those luminous rope markers from Supapeg. They're good for about 3-4 hours after sunset but remain in low glow throughout the night. I've probably got 20 or so.

damn good idea thanks carl
Andy

We have the poles with the threaded end and wing nuts so no need to add ropes for windy weather.

Just another idea you might want to look at, the ocky are a good idea as well and we did that until a mate put us onto the threaded ends.

i saw an ad for them in the latest camper trailer magazine the other day, not sure where to get them.

edit: just did a search, here they are:

I've never seen them in real life though, thought it was a good idea but.  I got nothing to do with them either, my 2nd post here, don't want people to think i'm a spammer!

You could get this

http://www.glorope.com.au/index.cfm

At $7.00 per metre the guy ropes would be quite expensive, talking point at the campsie though!

On the positive it would be easy to find your site after a few bevvies!

Old topic I know.

But we have really just taken up camping.  What I found useful for this purpose was cheap GLOW STICKS, from the $2 shop.  They last 1-2 nights.

I twist one around the guy ropes mid way so you can see what the trajectory is (and at base for those longer guy ropes).

They are also great for:
- Tent entrance zipper (so you are not fumbling around trying to find where the last person left the opening zipper when busting for the loo at night - connect it thru the zipper eyelet).
- Attaching to the torch clip or roof hangers (where light is) - Same as above but also in case you put the torch on the ground and forget.
- Act as mild night lights in tents.  Gives off enough light to make out objects.  Use differnt colours for different functions or brightness.
- At dark / haphazard campsites (i.e. no set roads etc), I also attach one or two on the side of the tent facing the loos or entrance.  Make for easy spotting in the dark amongst the bushes and other tents....and they are not bright enough to affect other campers but can be seen 30-50mtrs away.

Bunnings have reflective rope in various sizes. Here's one:
