Fridge vent dust covers & the risks
« on: March 26, 2011, 09:56:49 AM »
G'day,

I recently made some dust covers for the fridge vents on the Goldstream.

Last week we were away and had the covers on whilst traveling (the fridge was off), but forgot to remove them when we set up camp about midday. The fridge was turned on using gas. About 7:30 I suddenly realised what I hadn't done....

Fortunately, there was no fire, but if I had left the cover on for much longer....

Hey Knight44
I very much doubt that anyone that has ever been anywhere or done anything will not have had a moment like that at some stage, maybe lottery ticket time.and that will be something that gets checked religiously for may set ups to come

You're absolutely right - in fact I'm going to make up a small warning notice and attach it to the fridge.

Surprisingly, the cover itself was undamaged - and it's only made out of Corflute.

The big question is, did it keep the dust out :)

It did, but there wasn't much dirt and the road was so narrow and twisting, that speeds were low, so not a really good test. Not like several 100km of bulldust.

Incidentally, how do you get the smileys etc into your posts? Every time I try all I get is javascript:void(0);

Geez that was a close call  :-[
What made you realize that you had left it on? Did the fridge interior actually cool down or was that what made you click? Id imagine it was not.

We were having dinner when I suddenly remembered and bolted out the door. A little longer and I'm sure one of us would have smelt something. The top of the bench over the fridge was hotter than normal, and if I'd put my hand on it, I would have realised immediately what I'd not done. The Goldstream doesn't have a vent on the bench like the Jayco's (at least I think they do). Don't know if the fridge had cooled as I didn't open it, but I'd imagine it hadn't.

That's a bit close for comfort.
Glad to see no major damage or anybody injured.
Helps me justify going the Waeco option.

Very scary . We have the same set up but use duct tape to hold the corflute on .
I will be putting a sign on our covers .
Thanks for the warning .
