Oh the quandaries!!!
« on: March 20, 2011, 04:16:50 PM »
Hi all, long term camper looking at a CT.... been toying with the Idea after my first family (3 under 3yrs old) camping trip at south west rocks which proved a challenge in a tent. Now I am more than happy in a simple swag which I do with the boys as often as possible but after some consideration for the family s sake I have been looking at the jimboomba & customeline campers, I prefer to buy  and support the locals and Aussie made. My quandary is that to purchase the CT I would have to part with my beloved tinny. I could afford both but having to maintain, register & insure 2 cars, a harley (which I'll be buried with), a tinny & possibly a CT, the overheads on 1 income are starting to get ridiculous. Soooooo do I bite the bullet - sell my tinny and do the family a favour?

The two best days of a boat owners life are the day he buys it and the day he sells it :)

For the $150 it would cost to register the boat/trailer - I would flaunt my A$$ at the cross to cover it and keep both.  ;D

I have 9 regos  ;D I sponsor the RTA.

Hi spearking.
Any mates got a tinny/other type boat? You could encourage them to get out on the water more :)
As it's a tinny, I'm assuming you mostly do rivers/lakes? Could always buy a canoe & tie it to the top of the camper when heading out, top of the vehicle when soltiude is required.
I could suggest getting a canoe rack made to carry a canoe above the bike, but then I'd have to hit myself for you!  ;D

Gday and welcome to My Swag, ditch the boat trailer, throw the tinny on top of the new CT but definately keep the Harley :cup: it will double as a disposable anchor for the tinny ;D ;D  then you could claim insurance and use the money to buy a Ducati :cup:  ;)

All them toys with 3 kids under 3 makes me think you got them before you got the kids!! I have 2 & 3 year old boys and a CT under construction as the tent is carnage. :'(

Downsizing the tinnie and getting something smaller / cheaper and putting it on the racks on your CT gets my vote!

You're a brave man camping with 3 kids, you probably need the harley to keep your sanity!!!

Hi  fitzyfootlong & welcome to Myswag' keep the tinnie & put it on the ct,  if you get rid of the tinnie now, with a young family it could take a long time before you get another one.

Welcome to MySwag....I agree with the others put the tinnie on the C/T... You will miss it too much if you get rid of it.

Welcome to the Forum Spearking, I would keep the boat as others have said and get the trailer as well, by the looks of your username you would still get use out of the boat, if not you may have to swim a bit further

I've got a tinnie and outboard which wouldn't have been used in 2-3 years, and SWMBO (sometimes) has been making noises for a while about selling them, but I know as soon as I get rid of them I'll be planning to head to somewhere where I can use them.

If your boat is not being affected by the weather, and your outboard is in good condition and also out of the weather, and you're not destitute, then keep 'em.  Just in case.  Once you get rid of them, it'll be hard to ever get the coin together to get another.

Welcome to the forum, I've only been here awhile too. South West Rocks was the first proper outing for our CT, did two weeks there in Jan, may have seen you there! Camper Trailers are a lot better in wet weather, go the CT!

MMMMMMM.... much to think about, the boat will be to big for the trailer so its gota go, I could have both but like I said more bills for rego, insurance, storage, and maintenance is not something I need to feed the guilt trips from the wifee (just got blasted for buying a new exhaust for the harley  8) but having the trailer I could someday get  a small tender for the top of it..... mmmmmmmmmm .... or I could sell the lot and buy a late model Chopper  :cup:

My 2 bobs worth......... Sell the boat and trailer and get the CT and a small tinny around 3.4 mtrs wack a 4hp on it and no need for rego, Bung a set of racks on the CT and away you go.

Welcome to Myswag Spearking.
We have recently bought a camper trailer with a boat rack on for the day we buy a small tinny. We use to have a bigger tinny and motor which hadn't been used for a few years so decided to sell it. No regrets because it was too big and heavy for the top of a ct.

I think griz066 has the right idea - sell the one you have and get a smaller one.

Good luck with all your decisions and enjoy the forum.

Cheers,
Sharyn  :D
