Hi All,
Have just found the site and have joined to gain a bit more knowledge prior to taking the plunge on a camper trailer!
Have been a tent camper with my parents and now my wife and 3 kids aged 14,11 and 8. We went to the Newcastle Show and saw a lot of what we would like but the cost factor is the handbrake, I am currently looking at whether a DIY job will be a better option as I will be able to add as i go!
I have read a few bits in the forum prior to registering and there are some inspiring trailers amongst them, I have already had a few discussions with a local trailer manufacturer and hoping he will be able to build a trailer for me that suits, then I will be looking at tent options, this will be a work in progress but I have a deadline for January 2012 for a trip to Tassie. So it will either be a custom DIY or a pre built from one of the many fantastic CT manufacturers to chose from.
Cheers
John

Welcome to MySwag, good luck with your trailer decision.

BTW there is a great Mountain Trail camper in the for sale section.

Hi John and welcome to My Swag, check out the CT classifieds on this forum as there are lots of pre-loved CT's for sale and most would already have mods done to them so you may find something that suits your needs.

Thanks everyone!
Wow what a friendly forum!! I found the link through campertrailers.org and they are a receptive bunch as well.
We had originally decided that we would aim for a Johnno's CT we really like them but we baulked at having to get another loan!
We will be going to Rosehill and Maitland when the shows are on and exploring options and getting ideas for what we want to do.

If I decide on the DIY option the decision will come after the shows and will pretty much give me six months to complete the project to a useable stage. Meanwhile it's planning and working out parts budget plus socking as much cash away as possible in the process.

Are there any Newcastle or any other members for that fact that have had a custom tent made and if so would you be willing to share where and what sort of experience you had in getting this done?

Cheers

Welcome to the Forum, the second hand market has a fair bit to offer, then again the satisfaction of making your own is great. I am sure we can help you with your decision, just ask away and research the threads.
