Hi There
« on: March 07, 2011, 11:33:18 AM »
G'day. Another newby here. Looks like a great site with plenty of info. Hopefully I won't annoy you all with the same newby questions such as 'What's the best camper trailer for me?'

But seriously, what's the best camper trailer for me??  ;D >:D

We've done plenty of camping but are now planning our 'big lap' around Australia for mid next year, spending about 3-4 months away. Kids will be 11 and 6, 2 adults. Tow vehicle diesel pajero, will also be lugging kayaks, surfboards etc.

I'm leaning towards a pop-top /expandable van rather than a camper trailer - wondering what people would suggest is better for en extended trip like this where we'll be on the move most of the time, with a few longer stays (3-4 nights) at various locations

Looking forward to participating in the site in future, Cheers,

Dave

G'day GG. We'd like to get to some more remote spots, but I know that road conditions have improved a lot in recent years so not sure how much 'serious' 4WD'ing will be required. Ideally I'd like a van/camper with some offroad ability  (ie more rugged build/better tyres/suspension) so that it doesnt fall to bits at the first dirt road corrugations.

Cheers

Welcome to MySwag Dave. Plenty of Outback Hawk/Swan Jaycos getting around that should suit your purpose. Or you could buy a quality prouduct such as a Goldstream (that should make the Jayco club bite ;D)
I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go…

Work - Outback

cheers D4D, dont want to start a brand war straight away, just looking for some ideas on what features I should be looking out for and the pros/cons of camper trailer v pop top vans.  As time goes by I'm sure I'll get recommedations for certain models/brands but at this stage I'm just starting the research process.

Best bit of advice I can give is listen to SWMBO. Got to keep them happy and they are "always right".

G'day Dave and welcome to Myswag. Sounds like a grand plan cooking. You're only limited by $$$ and the coastline. Wish it were me.
