New Expanda Layout
« on: February 28, 2011, 06:15:22 PM »
Found out about the new Expanda layout coming this year. I am very interested and considering upsizing from the Hawk.  ???

Thought others might be interested as it seems like a great layout for small families, say two adults/two kids. Still keeps the parents at one end and kids at the other, but the kids don't have to share a bed, they can have a bunk each that can stay set up (only the parents bed is a fold out). .

Just have to justify the jump in price now, think i can do that............................ ;D

I like that layout although for little kids it would be good if it was reversed so the kid's beds aren't near the cooktop. I'd also get rid of the robe and make more bench space.

Yeah D4, i was worried about that bit too, and one of the main reasons i went with the Hawk originally. But they checked with head office and there will be a wall between the stove and bunk beds (if that makes sense). Still not ideal, but i love the idea of an Expanda for quick setups, and roadside stops.

Just do it, you know you want too  ;D

Bushman you are like a little devil on my shoulder telling me to jump...............i love it! Need a shove some times

Not cheap, outback model starting around $33k, no options :'(. Not sure of non-outback model, probably around $30k starting price.

I justed posted in another post, about how we chose the hawk over an expanda for various reasons.

Every time I see one though, I can't help but wonder how much trade in I'd get on the hawk.........

Never happy...............thats my problem. Always think I can go bigger and better......... :'( :'( :'(

Damn this camping business, its costing me a fortune  ;D ;D ;D

Now go and buy the thing will you?????????? >:D >:D >:D

I can then show the boss lady your posts about how good it is and how its the best thing you ever did......................

Well the Hawk is up for sale  :'( and the new 14.44-4 Expanda is on the way, due in June  ;D

We ordered an outback model with a few extras (dual gas bottles, dual water tanks, hyland hitch, anderson plug to battery, hot water, external shower, air con plus a few more).

Found a few good picks online showing the interior layout (we went went with different colours with a small fridge + bench and overhead cupboard instead of the large fridge and microwave combo in these photos).

I know this isn't a caravan forum but someone out there might be interested

Well we went to the Sydney show today (mayhem!) and they had an on road version of this layout, first time we have seen one in the flesh.

We are very happy with our choice, perfect for our little family, especially with all the options we chose. A great surprise was the storage at each end of each bunk, great for the kids crap toys. Storage in general is huge compared to our old Hawk. You can get carried away though, before you know it you want more space and more space and you end up with a 26 foot caravan  ;D

I will post some pics if anyone is interested.

Found out ours will be the first Outback model of this layout, not sure if that is good news or bad ???

Must be hard to buy off the plan and glad you got to see it today

Vans are so hard to buy as they have hidden pockets and some cupboards that look big when you get them have been taken up by things like water heaters and cables or wheel arches

Glad it's worked out for the better for you
We went today to it was a nightmare

Going by the article above they said the bunk model has a shower? Is that the layout you bought?

"The 17ft layout launched last year, which includes a shower, parents' large front bed and a triple-fold bunk, has been well received," he said.

It was hard buying off the plan, but there were parts that are the same as other models so we could work out how everything was going to fit. Nothing like seeing it in the flesh though.

Your right it was a nightmare out there, but i had fun because i left the kids at my parents

That one (17.56-2 outback poptop) would be my dream van, but just too big for us at this stage. We went for the 14 foot bunk model (14.44-4) with external shower and HWS, see also the plan on the first post on this thread. Half way between the size of the Hawk and cruza and Bushmans rigs ;D

Well done KC. Saw the 14.44-4 layout at the show today. What a great & easy layout. If we we in the market for something similar, this is what we would get after seeing the one today
