Are A'Van campers considered on road, off road, or either?
« on: February 17, 2011, 01:52:16 PM »
Hi
We are looking at changing our camping living from a soft floor CT to an A'Van camper.
I have checked out the website, but at this stage, don't want to start "doing a deal" and talking to a salesperson without some information from our forum's combined knowledge.
It isn't clear what these units are capable of. They all have good sounding suspension. The smaller unit has 14" wheels, and the larger ones have larger wheels, and options for light truck tyres.
I can't see any mention of off road strength.
We are not planning rock crawling with a camper behind, but we do plan on touring our vast backyard, which isn't always on nicely graded class 3 roads.
Does anyone know whether these vans are off road capable as standard, is extra strength an optional extra, or do they shake apart on corrugations?
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers
Ian

They do have an off-road option as far as I aware, though not sure what the difference is other than bigger wheels/tyres and more ground clearance.

A-Van weather they be a camper or full van are a quality product

I have a friend that is now an A-Van dealer if you'd like me to sus out any more info just let me know.

Thanks Bushman, but there's no mention whether the structural integrity has been upgraded, if it is required. It's all very well putting on a package with bigger wheels, more ground clearance etc, but if the van itself shakes its guts out on rough roads, it just means the parts have a bit further to fall.

Friends of mine took one around Oz twice and it survived some pretty rough roads. Theirs was a Cruiseliner. The only criticism was the bed setup. They also sold it recently for nearly what they paid for it. They now have a 21' caravan with a toilet etc!! for the next trip.
I'm not lost, I'm here!
