Well all starting to get a bit blowy know, so time to as speewa said, get the head down and wait and watch.

Been through a bit in life but this has the stomach buzzing, take care all and hope it goes well. See you when the rain is thumping down.

My daughters just driven to work at Townsville hospital
and sent some pics a few minutes ago of what she took on her way in.
Already some flooding down the end of her street at the tidal end of Ross River and quite blowy.

Glad to read you evacuated paul06.  Hope everyone close to the beaches has done the same.
Had some very gusty rain just over an hour ago, but now it's rather pleasant here at Mt Sheridan.  It's giving me a false sense of security - keep thinking maybe it won't be too bad after all.  Just kidding myself really - am very anxious and yes, it's the wait that gets to you, eh.  Take care and stay safe.

We are getting heavy gusts of wind with rain squalls up here, and it hasn’t hit yet.

The way it looks at present on BOM it will give Cardwell and Ingham a good touch up. I think Cairns will just get the outskirts and since we are north or the eye we shouldn't get the tidal surge but only time will tell......

The beer fridge is full and the Generator on standby.......hehehehe

Same here, getting fuel nearly was the problem though, as I wanted enough for a few days at least, after Larry we had no power for two weeks.

You are not wrong Sharyn,

Guts is churning and the wait is abominable.

Wind picking up a bit here in Edmonton and the rain started again.

Eldest lad is in comms at the moment and will keep an eye on us. Daughter and partner 4 doors down and will be around for us as well. Both paramedics..

Fingers crossed but it looks like about 11pm 2night it is going to be gross fun..

Grrr!!!

I remember back around 1969 I was invited to join the Australian Army and my first posting was to Enoggera in Brisbane. Because my battalion (9 RAR) was only starting to return from Viet-nam, myself and 11 others were required to be the guard for Vic Barracks. A TC was predicted to hit the coast overnight about 600 miles (or kms) north of Brisbane.

The wind during the night in Brissy was very VERY scary especially with flying debris, and we were a long long way from the centre. I pray God keeps you all safe.
Cheers Glenn

My father has decided to abandon his place and move in with us for the night. He has a old timber house and he was a little worried, to the point he was thinking of camping the night in one of the old mine tunnels around here.

Don't blame him John...starting to get a bit windy down here on the low lands.

You all take extreme care up there ok.. :D

We are going to get belted tonight so fingers crossed for a good outcome and no injuries or worse for the locals around Cairns and down south where the thing is going to be the worst.  ???

That's what I saw on the site too.  Always seems to be less severe when you're north of the eye, thank goodness.  Feeling not quite as anxious now - just hope I'm not being too hopeful.   Do so feel for those further south.  Wouldn't swap spots for quids!!

Best of luck to all those involved.

Wouldnt catch me hanging around for it.

I've experienced my fair share of storms and cyclones, i have a huge respect for them.

Stay safe to all those Qld'ers that are in the path of Cyclone Yasi.  Having lived through Cyclone Tracy and witnessing the effects of Category 5 cyclone Monica in 2006, everyone should NOT underestimate the power of these things.

If this cyclone hits the coast as a category 5, it will cause a fair bit of trouble across the mainland as it will no doubt retain a fair degree of power for a while yet.  You only need to look at the effects of the previous ex-cyclone that is presently moving through NSW!
