Thinking of heading to Brindabellas any ideas?
« on: January 07, 2011, 10:07:48 PM »
As the topic says I'm thinking of heading up Brindabellas way from the mighty metro area of Albury. Ill head up via Yass come home through Cooma. Is it worth the trip or do I head up to the High Country time is limited as the misses only gets Fri-Mon off, so I'm restricted to a 4 day weekend.
I would like the idea of a creek/river campsite. We are self sufficient so no requirement for any facilities.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You could camp down at McIntyres Hut buy the river, Its a long steep descent into the area though. If you do head in there make sure you keep an eye on the weather. The track has a series of switchbacks to negotiate also. You can come in from Wee Jasper. by taking the Doctors flat Rd, Folllow the Waterfall Fire Trail then the McIntyre Flat Fire Trail this will get you to the hut.

Or if your looking at the High Country there are some great campsites at Tom Groggin then you can head across the river into some awesome 4WDriving.

both are good spots, I'm a fan of the high country though  8)

Cheers

Just emailed you some Oziexplorer track and waypoint files of the McIntyres and Lowells area....and for good measure also sent the Broken Cart, Long Plain run too just in case you are able to use them.

We went to Wee Jasper this time last year, turned of the hwy and went through Tumut, the road isn't sealed and we had a huge storm the day we went but was a great drive.  We were only there a night but with a couple more days you could do a good llop through Wee Jasper around to Cooma, down to Jindabyne and home via Tom Groggin, Kahncoban, Corryong.

Just keep you eye out for track closures, many tracks have now been gated off....
