Things like this where its splitting hairs, as has been for over 100yrs, benefit of doubt to batsman (when did that rule get the arse?) .

5 replays is more than enough not dozens and dozens- no decision, not out.

.. or they will build more speed humps just off the pitch so bats jump up....

made it back in by miles, bat hits uneven ground and skips 1 micron off grass...

In any event, it was a strong indication of how much technology is now helping/interfering with the game of cricket. Third umpires, flashing stumps, zoomed in replays and so on...


I remember back when we had umpire duty when I was playin, if the blokes bat was past the line, he was safe... and our grounds were a tad more uneven than this one...

Have to disagree there...

The bat being on the ground has always been the rule, even in junior cricket.  Was when I played and it is now. 

If you slide your bat properly, it's not a problem.  If you're too lazy to make sure, then it's your problem.

On world class grounds, there shouldn't be bumps big enough to make your bat jump, so it's entirely up to the batsmen to make sure.

No different to the stumping rule.  So a batsman can just have their foot over the line, but not touching the ground??

How far above the ground is acceptable?  One inch, 10cm?  Open to interpretation, which is the bane of umpires in all sports.

At least this rule is clear.  Bat off the ground is out.  Always has been.

   If this had of happened when you played my friend.......It would have been given......NOT OUT.....

            The bat was only milimeters off the ground...to close to decide with the naked eye....So i rest my case...... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D......Just my oppinion.....The use of the bunker for every decesion has taken the power of the umpires away....

agree that if this particular situation had happened in junior cricket, that it would have been given not out, but only because the umpire wouldn't have seen the bat off the ground. 

how this umpire saw that the bat was off the ground in the first place in this case is the issue.  the bunker just does what it does.  it saw the bat was off the ground, with the technology that they have.  not their fault.

i don't agree with the bunker being there at all, but it is there, and the umpires are able to use it...

at least there is no ambiguity with this rule and tech, not like with LBW's, which is a total face...  ???

like i said, the problem is that we can see that it was millimetres up in super slow-mo, but how did the umpire see that at full speed?

the actual decision is not the issue, because the decision (according to the rules) is right.  you can't have it both ways.

sometimes, s**t happens in sport. 

i might be naive, but i believe that not everything is corrupt and evil in sport, sometimes it's just bad luck...  :D

How determined are we to lose this match.  About time to reintroduce the bowlers to what they are aiming for , the wickets.  The batters can let everything go it is not going to hit the wickets

I know Jim Maxwell has been ill but surely we're not that devoid of cricketing talent that we cant find some decent commentators.
