I grew up in mining towns - does that count  ??? Dad is a metallurgist.

Weipa (Qld) until I was about five (Comalco/Bauxite) then Rosebery (Tas) until I started high school (E.Z.). I'm pretty sure those company's have since been taken over and rebadged/renamed.

Hi Gunna Do ,
Drill and Blast, either contract shotfirer or supervisor. I get the wander lust every 12 to 14 months or so. Shotfirers like to get their rocks off daily.

Freeport is a huge operation I haven't been up to Grasberg for over a year now so it would only be getting bigger. Its an incredible place up there. They were moving around 700 000 tons of dirt a day.

Being a contractor I get to see a lot of places. I could list all the sites that I have worked at but it would take up way to much time. One nice advantage of the job is I get to see the a fair part of the world.
