QLD Transport is bloody useless, (Rant)
« on: June 26, 2017, 01:05:13 PM »
short story, QLD transport is bloody useless.

long story, went in to register a boat trailer i built, "you need a vin" no worries i knew that, fill out the form go back to the desk, the system is down come back monday. i asked if i need to bring the trailer and they said no.

go in today, ask for vin, system is down, they make a 5 minute phone call and i have a vin. (no reason they couldnt do that friday.
they tell me that i need to go home stamp the numbers and fit the vin plate, but i don't need the trailer to register it. right do all that, go back out,

( you need to bring the trailer out.) so now i have to make a 4th trip to that dump just to register a boat trailer for a 10foot tinnie, would have been easier and probably cheaper to just risk it with another trailer plate on it.

and i can almost guarantee that when i get out with the trailer they don't even look at it.

I thought that this form is what you do , self assessment , for a trailer under 750kg.

so did i, but they have to inspect that you have stamped the numbers and fitted the vin plate. finally all done now, only took 4 trips out there. good thing i have nothing to do.

You poor bastard!
I have absolutely no idea why they incorporate being an uncooperative arsehole into their training for a position in QLD Transport but bloody hell they're good at it.
I've never had so much trouble with a government organisation in any state or territory in Australia as I have QLD Transport!
And my favourite little kicker is, after all is said and done and you go to pay for the back door rogering they have just taken much delight in serving you, they then have the audacity to say " there will be a surcharge of x percent if you use your card to pay for that".
Sorry, this just bought up a few underlying feelings I have toward them!!

i had to go there one day to register a semi trailer for work, and they walked out side to measure it and there was a sprinkle of rain, not even enough to hit the ground, and the one that was measuring it goes, "i can't work in the rain, you will have to wait till it stops." and walks inside.

Went there once to change the seating capacity in my old Cruiser after removing the front bench seat and putting in bucket seats. Lined up with the required paper work and engineers certificate, eventually get served after the usual waiting for your number to be called, problem for me is i drove the wife's car there and the person behind the desk says they need to see the vehicle. I drive home grab my fourby and drive back there, line up, wait for number to get called and get served by a different person...she sees the paper work signs it all off job done...don't you want to look at my vehicle i ask?... nah, no need to...but the other lady just sent me home to get it...oh that's the old way, don't need to see it.....F$#@ing useless they can be at times.

So the daughter recently bought herself a new car and i decided that I would keep her old car as a runaround/ railway station car rather than using the 4wd, considering I originally purchased it for her.
In QLD you can transfer rego between spouses without safety certificate , the same when it is transferred as part of a deceased estate, yet between dependants (daughter to father) you need to get a safety certificate. Now I don't mind the concept of a safety certificate and considering before I agreed to keep the car I had our mechanic check it over and fix any issues, aka like a safety inspection, I just didn't want to fork out the $100 for certificate.
Plan B into action and I realised that my daughter and I can become joint owners together on the rego without a need for the safety certificate for a small fee of $18 ( I think) then on the very next day I can then remove daughters name from rego again without certificate.
The car is now registered in my name,
Go figure.
I should also mention my dramas at registering our Jayco Expanda when moving from NSW and after sorting gas certificate and safety certificate I was then sent away for another certificate that required a measure of the van to make sure it was still the same size that a caravan should be.
Go figure no 2.

Chap at the desk went a bit pale  & asked where did l get them all   ???. Nobody asked for me to hand in the others  ,  ever    :-*. Chucked in the lot & got A QLD truck licence for my trouble .  Could have been handy in the long run      :cup:

Some shockers in there, and pretty much how I remember most of my previous dealing with Transport departments in NSW and QLD.

But I have to say the crew at the Nambour office have been awesome every time I've had to go in there recently.

Over the last 2 years I've had a few trips in there to transfer 2 cars and a trailer from NSW to QLD.
I bought an unregistered old clinker for my dad, had to do roadworthy and new rego in my name, then transfer it over to dad. No dramas with any of that.
And I've just bought an unregistered Sierra to play around with myself, another roadworthy and new rego, no dramas again.

Every time I've been in there the staff have been very helpful and friendly.
The last time I was in there doing the Sierra they did an awesome job trying to help the guy next to me transfer his old caravan from VIC to QLD. Sounded like he'd had a heap of dramas up till that point, but the lady that was serving him was great.

When he left the lady serving me and a couple of others were saying how they felt sorry for him, but we're happy they could get him sorted. I had to let them know how refreshing it was to always get good service at that branch.

I just recently had to transfer the rego of my daughter's car from NSW to Qld. Got the safety cert and then attempted  :D to get all the paperwork printed from online and completed before rocking up to the office at Maroochydore (near Wises Rd). Waited patiently for about a 1/2 hour and (with my daughter) fronted at the counter to explain my task. The pretty young thing behind the counter looked at all the forms that I had completed and asked why I had completed 2 of them to which I replied "because your website said so". She proceeded to tear them up and gave me an extra two to complete which I did at the counter while she was tapping away, paid my money, handed in NSW plates and received Qld, walked out, fixed them to the car and job done.

While it was a painful process she was helpful and walked us through it without any dramas. Bit different to the poor African dude I met outside trying to complete the rego paperwork when he didn't even really understand the questions on the form. I helped him for a couple of them but he was struggling with it all and when we came back out he wasn't there anymore so I hope he got it registered in the end

We've always found the front desk staff at our local office to be pretty good, but their back-of-house systems ???

My Mrs recently lost both her parents in very quick succession :'(

Their car came to her, so BiL took half a rainforest of paper into the Office to advise of their deaths, cancel their licenses & rego, & t'fer the car to my Mrs.

Took an hour or so of button pushing to sort it all out (which, strictly speaking, they shouldn't have done, because they're can't transfer a vehicle out of a deceased estate till 30 days after the death & he was in there on day 29 ::)), & they even waived some of the costs as it was too hard for their system to work out how much it was supposed to cost!, so all good.

A bit over a week later though, we got 2 identical letters from Qld Transport, one addressed to each of Mum & Dad.

Took a full page to basically say "We've been told that the person that this letter is addressed to (ie YOU!!!) is deceased. If this is the case, please advise us within 28 days of what is happening with your vehicle, rego xxxxxx" :o

The next day, we then got another letter from them, confirming t'fer of rego to my Mrs :-\

So, even though we took copies of everything, including death certificates, in, & the counter staff fixed everything up for us, their systems still sent out letters asking if you're really dead >:(, & if so, what are you doing about your car ???, despite the fact that the t'fer was already going through ::)

Likewise, always had terrific service at Nambour. I also have had good experiences with the one in Brisbane CBD.

I never have had a bad experience with the staff , they are just doing their job with the constraints imposed on them by the "system". In fact  when doing the rego name transfer the staff member just smiled when I suggested that a smart bureaucrat must of been off his game when he developed the rules of the game that I was playing.
