How much does a porta loo cost now days . . . . . ,

I know I could afford one before I could a camper

If you must dig a long drop you should be measuring the distance from a provided one in kilometres not metres. . . . . . .

rule is if you can smell the toilet you are too close to it. They are a keep out, and keep well away from them building that are popping up everywhere.

If one has to go visit one, then I suggest to wear a dust mask.

What amazes me, is the number of people, (grown ups ) and kids who use these supplied toilets and fail to drop the lid as requested by the parks authorities despite the notice asking them too.
Apparently it fails to register in their tiny minds, that the same blow fly that just flew out of the pit because they left the lid open, will be sitting on their lunch when they get back to camp ? How's that for totally clueless ?
Sometimes I wonder what would happen in our cities if the sewerage system ever failed. I'd hazard to say, first we'd be knee deep in you know what, and then the diseases would run rampant.

Oldmate,
Are you talking a port-a-Loo with  Four walls and a roof.
And a big tank of poo under the floor.
Or is it a port-a-potti cassette toilet.

I didn't mean just you.... Hahaha
And to stay on topic.
Agreed. We also have a porta loo (cassette type) that we will take with us when it's required.
Easier than digging a hole... Till you have to empty it....

I carry a portable toilet all the time. It just straps onto the drawbar of the dove.

We dont use it generally if there is a national park drop toilet around (unless its REALLY bad)

Most of the station stays up here in the north west REQUIRE that you have a chemical toilet (if you don't, they require you to hire one from them) This rule is probably due to people not being able to dig deep enough holes etc.

Alot of people turn their nose up at carrying your own sh!t around, but seriously if you use the right chemicals etc the smell is non-existent even when you empty it. I dont see why more people dont carry them!

My Question was to clarify.
It seems some people here seem to know you too well. :cheers:

Wouldn't want it pelted with rocks, have to be protected, sitting on the A frame is very exposed.
Not a lot of privacy either. :worthles: ;D ;D ;D >:D >:D >:D :cup:

Victoria National Park regulations ~ this is the Alpine National Park in particular;

http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/alpine-national-park/safety-and-regulations

Take note of;

Campsites must be at least 20 metres from waterways.
Toilet waste must be buried to a depth of at least 15cm and at least 100m away from waterways.
Dispose of soap and detergent at least 50m from waterways.

I also read somewhere that if you are taking a bush dump. Dig you 30cm hole, dump, wipe, BURN SOILED BOG ROLL in hole and then backfill.
Not sure about that in summer though.

There would be an earth shattering KABOOM
I DON'T CARE HOW NICE THE HAND SOAP SMELLS.....

You should never walk out of the public toilets sniffing your fingers.

Funny you should mention that..

I am sitting in carnarvon.. Stuck waiting for a car to be fixed after some water in fuel at the end of our trip.

Our toilet has been sitting on the drawbar of our dove for 3000kms over the last 2 weeks, approx 1200 of those on corrugated crappy roads and aside from being dusty it's in perfect condition.

We don't have a stone guard, it just sits in a canvas bag from in front camping gear and it's just ratchet strapped down..
