Was it Homer who said "No good story ever started with a salad" or words to that effect?

I thought it was "you don't win friends with salad"!

After extensive research, I confirm that you're correct. Both apply when camping though :)

My opinion is both.

Quick weekend with the guys and its swags, jaffle irons, tins of food, timber, fishing gear and beer. Heaps of fun

Weekend/week away with wife & kids then bit more tech, camper, ipads for kids, hot water, toilets etc and just as fun (but in a different way  ;D).

The point of it is do whatever is necessary to get YOU out camping as much as possible with whomever is company and fun will happen.

It is a universally accepted premise!

It's so refreshing to see people standing around having a yarn and a beer without at least one being unsociable and playing with there phone/tablet

I thought it was "you don't win friends with salad"!

No. It was "you didn't get that big just from eating salad"

Different episode than the one I'm referring to. But brings up an interesting point about how much Simpson's you could watch while set up next to the river on the sat TV hooked up to the Honda generator while brewing your own beer!!!

(off topic) - I love that episode of the Simpsons where Homer is sitting across the desk from the RV salesman who is looking perplexed at his computer monitor; (which is lit up and flashing like an xmas tree...).

In Homer-dumb voice - Homer asks:  "why is the screen is like that..."

The salesman's shoulders slump as he replies with something like:

"Its so that it is blindingly obvious that you cannot be given any credit"
 - (or much better words to that effect...)
LOL

I have looked on you tube and cannot find that clip...    It would be great if someone could post it up - cheers...

If it doesn't start warming up soon we might have to start up a "Mr Plough" franchise north of speewaville. Would have to have in dash GPS and DVD wired in with 6b&s.

if my life was an Simpson's episode

the one where homer is screaming after being hypnotised and remembers something from his childhood

just about every day when i get home the wife and kids are fighting and screaming and i mean loudly
it always reminds me of that episode

and no amount of camping / technology will fix it

Hit a balmy 28° here today. I had to do an Oldmate & resort to the Jacky Howe while pulling down an old fence.
I'm just about to have a palate cleansing ale
Back to the OP though.
Are todays tents better than the big, square canvas tents with the timber poles that we used in the 60's & 70's?
They always seemed to have oodles of room & had that certain smell about them. (Not sure what Jeepers would have smelt like though :o )

Jeepers tent possibly didn't have any flies, bugs or mossies, so more than likeliy ahead of it's time in terms of pest control technology.
Having said that, much technology and chemicals from those days are now being blamed for cancer and dementia. Thinking if I ever happened to come across one of his crop dusting sessions, dementia might have been a nice release...........
