I mean if she had to talk to me day in day out with no distraction she might figure out I only have 5 jokes... And they're not all funny.
I'm hearing you fathom, have you noticed how much I travel and not always at home, and she won't come camping in winter.  Mind you, when I'm away from home, I don't go hugging the natives like some I know.

You could afford spare aluminium foil to use as chewing gum?
Man I knew you were a glamper!
One of my first 4wds was an old v8 range. After filling it with oil and fuel and some more oil. I couldn't spare the extra foil for something as luxurious and frivolous as just chewing.

I have grown up camping reasonably simply with the exception of a trailblazer fridge.

I will be honest and say I love the bling and comfort now. I don't need to wake up cold or with a sore back to feel like I have gone camping. Life is so much easier when your wife is comfortable enough to say yes whenever camping is suggested and even suggests it herself on occasion.

That being said I had a night a away with a couple of blokes recently and it was little more than the swag, a steak for the grill and veges for the camp oven. Oh and did I mention beverages.. Had a great night.

  • Have fun and enjoy
I think we're just getting older.

Can remember getting calls on Friday arvo
Mate lets go camping,
Go home, throw an esky, tarp and sleeping bag in the boat, grab a case and a loaf of bread, milk and go.

We ate what we caught..   Bread for fish sandwiches, or toast in the morning.

Could be on the road within 30 minutes of deciding to go.

Now it's a 3 week planned mission with the wife and 3 kids to pack the entire house.
Maybe camping with wife and 3 kids is different than 3 20 year olds going camping

  • "If 1 axle is good, 2 must be better........."
It's just easier to take the camper.
Hook on and go, and it's all there.....too much dicking about without it.....

As for leaving all the tech behind?  That's OK for a weekend or so, but I wouldn't like to do it on an extended trip. It's too embedded in our lives now....banking, email, etc...

  • How repugnant
Foil? Geez that's fancy..... Most honest campers just use a banana leaf, usually dot painted. Oh, don't forget no pillows, just use a boot. That is real camping (even if that member wasn't real  >:D ).

And that's why you get so many different opinions...everyone is different..

Everyone has different ideas on what camping is about....everyone has different financial situations.....everyone has different family members ( missus needs ?? )....and some people go camping and don't even drink alcohol !!!    ;D ;D

The motorsickle, orange pup tent and sleeping bag with a bottle of Stones Green Ginger Wine or Plonkers Port in it, bungyed on and the open road. Those were the days when men were men and women were glad of it and God's wrath was a helluva hangover under sunny orange nylon in the morning.
Then came the missus and kids to shut all that down and well you know how it is with we Jayco jerkers nowadays? Will Purgatory be the full blown Sterling and Prado eventually?

Yep all about the bling about the bling, when I roll up and see the poor people camping it makes me feel even more powerful & elite than I already am. I always go for the most expensive, useless pieces of camping gear but makes me look fantastic in the bush where people's opinions really do matter, especially people who I don't know :)

I remember 20+ years ago I just started dating this girl and we went camping with her friends to get to know them. (All of us in our early twenties)

We all drive 3 hours to find this remote bush camping spot and once finished setting up camp and I crack a beer and the look on all their faces was priceless as none of them though to bring alcohol seeing we were going camping. Even funnier that they all had these esky’s full of ice just for a couple of cans of soft drink, water and canned food.

After that they learnt that alcohol and meat is one of the first items packed and then all future camping trips were far more enjoyable.

Yep I don't drink alcohol when camping not any more.

Had our honeymoon on Morton mate and his wife arrived a week later let the drinks flow I said well the next morning woke up laying out side someone's tent 1k away from our camp surrounded by UDL cans didn't bring UDL cans with me didn't know the people in the tent.

So the bride had the Shits not sure why still married.

But after many Fraser Island trips me and my best mate getting rotten every time the brides making us suffer with hangovers with all the honey dos and honey get and after a stroke when I was 45 no more drinkies.

So give me all the glamping goodies probably don't need them but what I don't spend on smokes and alcohol I spend on things.

Each to there own as long as you enjoy life we are not here for that long.
