BFG A/T Vs Falken A/T 02
« on: April 01, 2015, 07:21:22 AM »
I had a look at some product reviews this morning on these two and it was surprising how good the Falken came up and the BFG was not so great.

I've been out of the tyre game now for over 12 years, but always remembered BFG as being pretty good. (At least, I think I remembered it that way)

Only $10.00 difference in price too, so no swaying on price there.

Looks like its nearly time to ring Bob Jane and get some.

No comparison in my book JC. Don't get me wrong they are not a bad tyre(Falken) but Id opt for something like a Maxxis before them for around the same money. What size we talking?
I wouldn't take too much notice of tyre reviews.

The BFG looks more aggressive in the tread.

Never know to comment or not..   ???

The last lot of BFG A/T tyres I have seen used used on one  the Top End 4WD club members vehicle did not faired so well, the issue is the tread chewed out out on all of the tyres -- very short life span.

Yes I do believe correct pressures were used etc  -- the actual member is a reader on this forum   >:D   I wish I took some pictures of the tyres, before he had them changed (he is now driving around on some oddball cheap Chinese muddies now  :D (seem to be doing all right as well)) .

We did discuss the tyres, maybe BFG might have changed the formula or something..  No idea why, we have now seen this on a few vehicles with BFG A/T tyres.

O.K. might not be so much of a issue if you in a live cooler area, or if you live on the bitumen,

Don't know much about the Falken A/T 02  -- I did consider them for my own vehicle but no one stocked them in Darwin at time I was asking.

Maybe put in the mix Yokohama Geolandar GO12  -- The pricing is usually good, they don't seem to rip or chip out, and they only tyre that offers Free Road Hazard Protection, and I can vouch for as I have already used that on one of my tyres.

Have you considered Toyo? http://toyotires.com.au/tyres/suv-4x4-tyres/item/1235-open-country-a-t-ii

I put a set of their Open Country AT II's on about 3000kms ago and so far I have found them to be excellent.

I've had the bfg on 2 different trucks and will never have them ever again.  Torn tread blocks, sidewalls cut very easily and found them very ordinary on wet bitumen.  Currently on my second set of yokohama at's on the wife's Pajero and think they are great.  Better tyres out there than bfg's.

I ended up going with the Falken High peak A/T 02 in the end.

Put 4 on this morning @ 170,000 klm with Bob Jane Maryborough, so it will be interesting to see how they go. All up cost for 4 tyres and wheel alignment and that crap @ $785.
We bought the Jeep 2nd hand @ 120,000 klm with Maxxis A/T's, but I have to say, while it said A/T on the side, what we had were very highway like rather than A/T.
I would think, we should see maybe 70 to 80 k out of them. (Mrs Jeepers drives it more than me)

Very happy so far, not noisy, drive well, track straight and all that crap, but its done less than a 100 klm so far too.
