« on: June 15, 2013, 10:25:24 AM »
Hi folks,

Interested to know which dual cabs has the most room for rear seat passengers (other than the Landcruiser dual cab)?

Hoping someone knows their dual cabs and can comment.

Cheers, Paul

The Triton has arguably the biggest rear legroom....only way to find out is sit in one , then try a Ranger/BT50 !!

Triton did have the best rear leg room courtesy of the sweeping c pillar.  Not sure now though.
My alternative to cheap import trailers;

I would say the exact opposite.  I have sat and looked, and sat and looked, in the them all over the past month or so.  But I don't own one, yet, so balance my opinion against that fact.  I think the Triton had the smallest rear leg room of the lot. It was a toss up between the Ranger/BT50 and the DMax for the most leg room.  Possible small advantage to the Ranger/BT50.

Sorry KB but I disagree, I have a Triton , mates have Navara D40s and D 22s. The Triton rear seat room in the leg department and foot room in bigger in my opinion. As others have said its due the strange angle of the C pillar .

I think Paul wants the facts - according to a tape measure - rather than 'opinions'

having said that, shape of seats etc can affect actual comfort and that can't be measured with a tape measure :)

Well said GeeTee. I think you hit the nail on the head. More room doesnt necessarily mean comfort.

When we were looking for a replacement vehicle (a couple of years ago mind you) one thing we did notice was the difference in how far the rear passenger doors opened.  While the BT-50 of the time had excellent leg room, the door didn't open as far and the Navara.  This was a contributing factor in choosing the Nav otherwise we probably would have gone with the BT-50.

I don't know if this is the same for current models.  Just something we would look at when purchasing our next vehicle.

Cheers

Paul (SA), we could ague this all day and night.  Pity there isn't a campfire around  ;D

My opinion (and it is just my opinion) about the Triton was based on sitting in one just last week, walking next door to the Mazda dealer and sitting in a BT50.  To me, the BT50 was a bigger in the rear.  Not too sure about the Nissans as it was couple of weeks ago that I sat in them but I "felt" at the time that the BT50 was bigger.

Just got back from the Mazda and Isuzu dealers (again) and the room in the back of both is almost the same.  The Mazda BT50 is about 20mm wider between the front seat slides but you can slide your feet further under the DMax's front seats.  Next to no difference.  What my teenage son, his mate, my wife and I all decided was the DMax's rear seat was more comfortable.  We went to both dealers twice checking seats.  The salesmen thought we were nuts.  We also noticed the Mazda's rear bench has a metal bar just under the front of the seat cushion.  You could feel it quiet easily.  Not sure how that would go over a long distance and if it would cut into your thighs.

Anyway, as I said, just my opinion.  Only you will know what suits you.  Best to check out the vehicles for yourself.

I tested out a few models 3 years ago when looking at a new car for the parents.  The Colorado/Dmax felt like it had the most room compared with the Hilux, Ranger and Triton.  Never got to jump in an Amarok, the local dealer had none in stock and they changed their mind about the Dual Cab before any came in.

I was comfortable in the Colorado and I was 6'5" and 150kg back then.

We went through something similar, the rear seating was a major factor for us.

I was looking at a new dual cab and tried them all, one of the main requirements was the rear seats had to be comfortable and easily accessed. The reason being, my son (33) who I care for fulltime had to be able to get in and out on his own and he had to be comfortable for the long trips away camping/travelling.

After trying the them all, we found the Dmax to be the best of the bunch, the rear seating is quite comfy with plenty of room. I also like that fact that they are split and fold up, so I can have the fridge in there or the dog as well.

The rest is history and we don't have any regrets, we are very happy with the Dmax.
