At first when I read this thread I thought, here we go again. Blah blah blah.   The old why would anyone buy a 200 series.  Reading it again I don’t think that was the intention.
We drove various models and makes just over 3 years ago, and then drove a 200 series. End of story.  Worked hard all of our life and saved our money and so we bought one and love it. We only tow a camper trailer, but wanted a vehicle that would tow anything when we decide we want an off road caravan.
After 125,000 k’s absolutely no regrets.  Still drives like new. We can drive on extremely long trips or very rough roads/tracks but still feel refreshed at the end, such is the comfort of a 200. And we treat it like a 4WD so it has scratches etc. We are getting our money worth out of it!
Like campers and caravans, everyone has a different opinion and need and also affordability.  But remember, life is too short, don’t get too hung up on costs, if you can afford it, go for it.  ;D

Hi Kevin,

Could not agree more, that is why we went with the KK. I can understand a business getting hung up on diminishing returns, ROI etc... but this is my personal life and if I want it I will get it (as long as LB says I can :D)

New shopping trolleys are expensive because all the old ones are dumped in creeks and lakes ...  ;D ... sorry just couldn't help myself.

As to the thread - I bought what I wanted and it keeps me happy on & off road and that's all thats important - enjoy whatever you can afford - just get out there in the bush and live life ...  :D

my purchase decision was made over several months and for several reasons, none of which involved resale value and yes if i had my time over i would choose differently but that is because my wants and needs (as well as knowledge) have changed since then but my choice was still sound as it has been able to fufil its original roll as well as it's current one

I think looking at resale prior to buying a vehicle is like asking for a prenup' before getting married

Maybe it was the intention, but most people here seem to appreciate the value of the top of the range 4X4's. I also agree with you when you say

As far as value for money is concerned I think 3/4 year old 4WDs take some beating.  This particularly the case for ones that have a high depreciation.

Having said that you do miss out on the thrill of owning a new car. The rate of technological change in diesels and utes has been huge recently so newer 4WDs may be significantly better than even a 3 year old vehicle.
