Take lots of cable ties of various sizes, they come in very handy.

After doing lots of weekend type trips and then going away for a couple of weeks, one thing I forgot was a length of food grade hose for filling up the camper water tanks after a week or so on the road.  There was always someone willing to loan us one in the caravan parks though.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your preparation as well as your trip.  Keep the dream alive!!!

 :D

Crazy dog has pretty much covered just about everything for a year on the road.
Only thing I would argue strongly on is the taking of a personal slave!!!
I usually AM the personal slave..... ;D ;D ;D

Just one helpful suggestion.
Make a full list of what you take. When you get home from every trip you do, delete one item that you found unnecessary.
After a while your list will be accurate.

Cheers
Brian

if you take to much down size at a local op shop they will be almost as pleased as you will be .
i try to have 3 uses for everything or it stays home
eg. shovel
defence , should there be decent in the ranks
extraction , destucking should this happen
nature , should the call come
anyway you get the drift        plan all you need then leave 1/2 or more at home

clothes - get out what you want to take, put it on the bed, and then put half of it back! You'll find you will just wear the same things most of the time. Depending on where you are going, it may be a week or so between times when you can wash, and at $4 a load in the caravan parks, you want to be doing as little as possible. You find you just make your clothes last.

We have a bucket with a good lid on it
I found it was good except when u had to rinse the darn clothes, at one stage i
didn't add washing power too it.  Made it easier and they where still clean enough for us

No, I think you just about have it all covered and quite sanely so as well. It helps makes a crappy job seem a real pleasure to do. Too bad you can't utilise it when packing up.

It is not unusual to have a coldy cracked prior to setting up. Though I will select a spot and park first. This can be an arduous task in itself the aftermath of which demands tempering with a soothing coldy. This then puts one in the correct mindset for the setup itself.  :cup:

Mrs Snow can fully attest to it to the dribble I have just written. "It works, truely it does luvie" ;D ;D

Tommo, there is no formula for this because we are all different. The list up the page looks to cover 97% of what you need and a heap you don't so have good hard look at what's there.

What I will add to your mix is the idea that you need to leave some empty space in your rig. You will need to change the way you do things occasionally to get the best, most convenient, systems happening and the ability to repack without it being like a space puzzle will make that easier. Also, you will need to add the odd thing from time to time so that will need space as well. Even just going down to Coles to do the shopping can be trying when the car is always chockers.

No idea how much camper touring you have done but believe me when I tell you that your experience will be so much better if you stay lean on your takings. keeping things light and packed for convenience is the key to good times.

It would help if you told us what sort of camper you will be travelling with (and no, I don't mean your partner!).  What comes with it as standard?  How big is it?  What are you towing it with?  All makes a difference.

out camper is an 09 tambo cooper with electric brakes, tail gate kitchen with bench extention, 70ltr water tank, end wall with window, draught skirt, treg hitch.... haven't put much thought in to what to put in there there in allready all out cooking stuff witch is totally covered apart from that.. ??

Loafers are fine quality leather slip on shoes, usually with gold trim or leather tassles. Had a pair (given to me) back in the 80's but tore the side out of one when I got it caught on the side of a pallet in the warehouse. Been wearing RM's ever since! 8)

So there ARE people who actually drink this VB stuff you keep talking about - strange!  Still, I suppose it's adequate as long as you pour it down so quickly that you can't taste it - and after the tenth one you probably can't tell the difference between VB and a proper beer anyway.

Most of the place is we go to our beach for a trip.. We make sure that we bring binoculars, camera, shirts, foods, sun burns cream, knife, fruits, and others. We ensure that we do not forget any important stuffs.

Sorry to bring this thread back to something less important but...

we try to take some silver bandage - you can get it from a good chemist but it costs a fair bit ($30 - $50) for an A5 piece.
Our 2 yr old badly burnt her arm when she was 15 months and this is the stuff the royal children's hospital used for it. Absolutely fantastic and can be used on basically every burn, graze etc and it will heal virtually scar-less. It needs soaking in (very clean if not sterile) water before application, then wrapped in cling wrap afterwards. Various neighbouring campers have used our stash so maybe we should start selling with a markup!

Good point about the First Aid Kit, but think about your needs and what you might have to deal with... and that might mean you need to do a first aid course.   One tip: after you discard the first layer off the roll, GladWrap is sterile and makes a good dressing on its own for burns, especially the ones too large for the non-stick dressings you find in most first aid kits.   These wont be larger than 10cm.
Silver is anti-bacterial but as FlyingBushPig says, is expensive.   $50 is more than most people spend on their entire first aid kit!   At that price it's too tempting to cut a piece off your A5 sheet and keep the rest for later....maybe next year's trip?  At which time it will no longer be sterile and you may introduce infection rather than prevent it.
Another point, people expect a lot more from you when they pay money.   If you sell them something (even to cover your costs but more so with a mark-up) you run the risk of being sued when they don't get the promised result.

I've always got the stubbie holders in the car but come home with more as I can't help myself, I usually try to use the one I just bought when drinking cause then I can look at it and remember where I am.

It's ok, I was kidding about the selling part. We've been grateful that someone could benefit from it. One of the people we helped was trying to deal with a bad graze. I think the silver really allowed them to continue their trip which was nice.

Patr80l, have you got a thread or some pics up of your truck? I lived in the Basin for the last year so I've probably seen you about.

Hi, My truck is a white 2006 GU 3.0TDI.   Not the sort to stand out in traffic!
Ok, I don't stand out much either yet...

Don't think I mentioned: for those who are still using 20 litre water drums, get a spare lid and drill it out (Bunnings). Insert caravan pump style tap ($20) - makes life so much easier.

Spare stubby holders,a tube of Silverzine and a tube of Butesin Picrate, and dont forget the Aerogard.

The Butesin Picrate is a must  8)

PS:- dont forget the Tea Tree oil.

PPS:- Dont put silverzine on and then go out in the sun,It's full of silver and goes black in the sunlight! But being an ex-B/maker welder it stops the sting instantly, you may need a doctors script ( well worth the hassle believe me on this one ) this is for real burns, not sunburn,it bloody works,if you touch a hot exhaust for instance this stuff stops the pain in a minute and no scar! 8)

A medical opinion on Silvazine:
Silvazine is not a first aid treatment but is used to treat and prevent infection.   It is used on burns with more than a trivial area of broken skin/blistering.   These are the sort of burns you should take to the doctor, hence the need for a script.    (Silvazine contains sulphur. Some people are allergic. There are reasons it needs a doctor's script)   It's not designed for symptom relief, although it's best kept in the fridge and any cool cream will be soothing.   After you put silvazine on, the burn should be covered with a sterile dressing, and so would therefore be hidden from the sunlight.   Normally someone on silvazine treatment would be having their dressings changed and wound reviewed each day by the nurse.   Silvazine is kept in the clinic.   I've used it for over twenty years but never written a script for it.

Infection is one factor that contributes to scarring, but more important is the depth or severity of the burn.

There are other creams available over the counter that are for numbing the sting of superficial burns with unbroken skin, eg Paxyl, which contains a local anaesthetic.

SPARE CAR KEY!

Yep, I'll second that! On a Boy's trip a few years back we had camped in NE Vic's HC when the frost hit. We were all sitting around the fire when a mate went to his truck to find it locked...Keys and remote fob in ignition, all doors/tailgate closed and locked. We had to ration drinks for him to survive until morning when we found some wire and gained entry to the truck.

Still don't know how it locked....no 'jokers' 'fessed.....

Good stuff Pat80l.. I find Emla works well for burns. Dan, our 7 year old put his hand on a fire ring a few years ago. After 30 mins in cold water I used Emla for pain relief.

It's a great cream and is also great to put on a splinter for eg. Wait 10 mins and then you can get the needle out and get the splinter. It is also great mixed with Cortisone (just a little) and used to provide relief for mozzie bits if they are bad enough.
