Hi Guys
What are your thoughts on solar blankets ,are they worth the expense. Are they worth the extra setup and pack up.
I can't make up my mind.
Thanks
Jeff

We have a solar blanket on a Pioneer Onxy Camper and have found it to make quite a difference in the Cold of Orange winter and the summer of FNQ, Cairns.
Definitely makes a difference in the extremes also keeps the camper darker at night, blocking out light.
We are able to leave it on for pack up, but it is a 5 minute job if you have to remove.
Cheers

They do a couple of important things. If you are in a coastal area ours totally prevents humidity forming on the inside of the camper. It does form inside the annex which doesn't have the thermal roof. It keeps the roof cleaner from bird droppings etc. Provides extra protection in case of bad storms, and makes the camper darker, both of which help me sleep. Makes some difference to temperature, but harder to quantify. Takes very little time to set up or fold away. Only downside is it has rubbed a bit on one corner of the tent.
Ours was made to our design to overhang the edges of the camper a bit which provides extra rain protection but the way we tie it down caused the rubbing. We put it on every time.

All I would offer is that I have hear they work but I have also seen them rip with a good wind. What ever you buy look at return policies and stuff like that. There is no doubt they work, had a mate with one and we could tell the difference easily between campers but theirs did rip

Does anyone have a link for somewhere to buy these or can recommend where to get one? Am interested in looking into one after seeing Redcherokee's in Albury last year

Search for Tropical Cover
you may find 1 or 2 dozen other threads asking this.

And the rest, it's been asked that many times it's starting to get old.

The people who made ours are now here:

Still think it is a good product at a good price.

Camprite used to make custom sizes as well. From memory they were about the same price as what's being advertised in the link above.
We always put ours on. :)

Thanks guys as usual very helpful

As a cub camper owner, been looking at a solution for a solar blanket without having to pay over $1k for one. Know some guys in the boat marine trimming game here in WA, but by the time sourced the silver cell material and labour to trim up etc was looking expensive. Bit the bullet and bought one from this mob for $590 before going to coral bay in early sept 14

Is not made for a cub, but was impressed with quality and tie downs included, length was perfect fit however width was more, however with the annexe on just provided extra cooling on it.

This was my first trip away using the solar blanket, with temperature of 32-35 when up in coral bay the roof was cool (the walls were warm), nights felt snug and I leave it on when folding up the camper
Just my recent experience with one and glad I have one now - worth getting one for sure
Cheers kim
