Title: STOLEN Toyota Bundera South Morang VIC
Post by: jtraf on March 01, 2013, 10:03:44 AM
Hey guys my brother-in-laws Yellow Toyota Bundera was stolen this morning from the front of his house in South Morang Vic.

Rego of the car is RQW 413 and there are couple pics of it just below.

Items that make it stick out other than being bright yellow are the old style metal racks on top.   It has an ARB winch bar without winch on the front with 2 Narva driving lights.  Also it is running 33x9.5x15 BFG muddies.  The skinny muddies have not been on the market for many years so the chance that two Bundera's have the same tyres would be very remote.

If you see it while on the road please call the police.

Yeah he is gutted.......

They were planning to go away for the long weekend but those plans are now evaporating fast unless car is found in one piece.

Car has been found......

Brother-in-law got a call from the Police at 1am advising his car was obstructing traffic in Reservior........They needed authority to tow it away.  Car is now at Heidelburg police station where it will be finger printed.

Not sure what it looks like or what they have done to it but looks like it ran out of fuel and was left where it stopped.

Hopefully just used for transport and not stripped.  We will find out tonight when he goes down to the cop shop what it looks like damage wise.

I too would have been down there first thing this morning.....but he needs to do the 9 - 5 thing and they are short staffed......

I think he has a little more comfort now knowing it is locked away at the Police station than out who knows where doing who knows what....

Excellent result  :cup:

Hope they don't use black finger print powder.  Makes a huge mess.  Will need polish to get it off the exterior paint work  :'(

Last time I had a car stolen and it was found the Police called and told me to come and pick it up. I asked if it was Ok to drive and they said no problems.

When I got there the thieves had stolen the drivers seat (Cannot remmeber the brand but an aftermarket seat) and had unbolted the passenger seat and dumped iton the drivers side.
The windscreen etc. was covered in the black fingerprint dust.

I asked the Police if I drove it would that be legal, they said no way so I then had to wait a couple of hours for a tow truck to arrive.

Turns out the car was used in a servo roberry so I then spent the next week driving around all the local servos looking at the expression on the attendants faces. Never found the place.

Wow nice and quick....
I've been on the unlucky side of this twice now.
1st car spent crazy $$$ building a Brock Common-door into a CAMS approved/ engineered/ rego'ed race car ( :'( STILL NOT FOUND :'() Insurance company sent an inspector around after 8mnths. I handed her the receipts and asked her if she seriously thinks I had any chance of a profit with the price I had it covered for and offered to return that amount for my car if found in 1 piece. Also gave her a copy of a photo of it at my little brothers formal 2 days prior to it being stolen, paint was 1wk old.
2nd time SWMBO was chokers with a belly full of arms'n'legs (8mths) her car was down the street for sale. A mate rang wanted to buy the car for his daughter. I said SOLD. We were in the middle of renovating so house wasn't best place for SWMBO's comfort but I sealed the floors she was sitting out front talking with her GF. We soon rea;ised we not stay the night so I put the oh so happy SWMBO in my 4wd & off to my parents we went. We returned the next morning to find her car that was under a street light in front of houses had been stollen. Car was found a month later...totalled. Car was insured for half the sale value as I had just built a new motor, new mags with tyres & a few other goodies not on the insurance list.
No I still haven't grown up as I'm still spending $$$ on my cars

Good to hear he got it back - hope all is OK

Story about a car theft.  Neighbour across the road from the in-laws in small southern NSW town had her car stolen.  A couple weeks later her sister in outback western Qld town was out the front of her house doing some gardening when a car pulls up and the person driving asked for directions.  She recognised the car as her sisters and on the pretext of going to get a map to show him where he wanted to go, she rang the Police ..... "karma" - don't you love it.

OK he has seen the car and other than emptying it of all the gear he had in it and breaking the ignition lock everything else seems fine.

As battery was flat and we assume it was out of fuel he was not able to start it.  Insurance company have stated that they want to write it off even though there is no visible damage.

Time will tell what happens but brother-in-law is working on it with them.  At the moment it looks like a lose lose situation as car is worthe bugger all but probably cant be replaced after out of pocket expenses.

Not a good time....but when is having your car stolen going to be a good thing??

Ii have two cars that can be stolen rather than me trying to sell them.

Can't the insurance company write it off and pay him out then he buy the "wreck" back from the insurance company.

Dunno how that works, usually you can make an offer and take less of a payout - I think?

If it is written off, no point trying to buy it back as you can't register it.

If there is nothing wrong with it that can't be fixed, I wouldn't bother going through the insurance and fix it myself.

He needs to look at/understand this:

Correct if they write it off as an economical write-off it will automatically be registered on the national Register.

In effect you buy the car back but have to have a VIV done to get it back on the road and it will be permantly marked as a write off in future searches.

I advised him to either get them to repair the faults or simply use the payout to find another vehicle......issue is what they reckon it is worth and what you can buy with what is left over after the excess is paid......not a great deal when the vehicle is 20+ years old.

its no different when the car is one of the last 10 GU 4.2's sold in AU.
They still try and lube you up massively and you have to fight and argue.

If you love the car and due to its age who cares whether or not is listed as a repairable write off. This will only be an issue if you try to sell it.
