Looking as though somebody may buy the Pajero with the Winch on it. I have been happy with the Avenger the few times I have used it and there construction seems solid. $1350 gets you 12,000lb line pull with 6 hp and synthetic rope. The couple of gripes I have are that they are slightly larger than the average winch, making install more difficult and the fact that all or any spares need to come from one source. So with that in mind Iam looking at the Warns because Aust dealers have sharpened there pencils on some models and overseas they are cheaper than ever.
But what model? Is the 9.5XP the ducks guts? I notice lots of 9000 models for reasonable money. Also notice that as good as they say the 9.5XP is it still doesn't have a sealed motor WTF!
This is to go on a LC 200 with ARB deluxe bar.
-
Ask ARB but I believe you can fit the 10,000lb Warn in the 200 bar. I'd be going that route first then the XP. Pity you're not in MEL otherwise you could get Mal Leslie to tweak it for you.

I saw a 200 at ARB on Friday with a 12,000lb winch fitted. But I thought the XP had the larger motor?

XP has the 6hp motor, doesn't make it pull harder just faster. Given the weight of the 200 I'd seriously consider the 12,000lb, fit the 6hp motor and keep the 4.6hp motor it comes with as a spare.

Anyone have one of these? http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/95cti_multi-mount_winch.shtml (http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/95cti_multi-mount_winch.shtml)
Seems like it'd be more usable than a fixed one at the front of the car?
-
Where would you store it when not in use?
-
I suppose it'd be in the cargo area of my 200.
-
Dunno about you but I don't have a spare space for a 40kg+ bulky winch plus electrical stuff that is handy to get to when you're stuck.
-
Definitely, no real spare space in the car though if it's got to come along then it's got to come along.
I suppose if you're driving in a group, at least you only need one for all of you (so long as you all have the Anderson plugs in the right places).
It's all about sacrifices, though I can see a real advantage in being able to winch out of somewhere backwards? Dunno.
I've only ever had one winch before, it was a hand winch.

I've owned one of those, it was only used once when I sold it :)
-
That would have been a strange feeling, happy because you're selling it but mad because you have to use it!!
-
If you want a laugh, watch this video for a mini motorcycle winch:

-
Be just like a hand winch. You would go like an idiot and damage something to avoid having to drag it out to have to use it.
With the Paj between the awesome Bushskinz bash plates, rear diff carrier and LR tank I had a flat underbody. If ever needed I was always going to run the rope back underneath the car for a rear pull ;D fortunately never need to test my theory.

200's won't get bogged will they?
-
;D I cannot deny this, I've not managed to get it stuck yet.
I was trying very hard to get it bogged at Bribie Island last I was there too. Even in the very dry forest tracks inland I couldn't manage it.
Of course, I did let the tyres down and I did have all the buttons pressed as I should do. Factory tyres too.

I have the 9.5 with a few tricks on board and its hauled the patrol up a hill for 3 hours when driver training. I was happy to pay the extra
GG
-
I also have XP9.5, the extra line speed can and has been a god send we motionless during water crossing....:-)

I have the XP9.5 in my 200 and so far so good. Done one self recovery on a very soft sandy hill climb without any problem. Also the same winch was in my V8 Cruiser Ute and did cape york in 2010 towing a camper. Done a few selfies with the camper on, again no problems.

Thanks Brett, does it go in and out of the ARB bar without having to remove the bar? I seem to recall somebody saying they will?

Have you looked at the bushranger winches? I had always used warn up until recently when I decked out the new patrol and after comparing the 2 brands could not justify the price difference of the 12000lb with rope so went with the bushranger and after using it to pull me out of some very sticky mud could not be happier. They will fit straight into an ARB bar as well and parts can be easily got if needed. As for line speed if your not in competition will the extra minute or so it takes for any winch really make such a difference to make the extra $$$$ worth it? Warn are a great winch (I have owned several and only had very minor issues) but IMHO are over priced. What ever way you end up going personally I would go the 12000lb
-
Thanks Tas
TBH I currently have an Avenger Mako 12,000lb and personally I think you will struggle to do better for $1300 or even a lot more. I have only used it a a few times but it's faultless. It's power and amp draw during load is far better than the warns and it's std 6hp sealed motor. I have pullded the gearbox apart and there all machine cut gears etc, really well made and i Can't seem to find anybody with one who has had an issue (a few patrol forum guys run them and hard) I don't know about the ironman and others but these are way above the Tigerz according to Paul of Tigerz not me, he is who recommended the Avenger it to me (before Action test)
But like I said previusly the Warns are everywhere, parts are in abundance and can be sourced for any era, I know what Asian manufacturing is like, if the change a small gear inside, the local distrubtors wouldn't be wiser. Also the pricing is more competitive now. If I do this I am going to buy it in the US and either bring it back with me this month or ship it with other stuff. So far I can get the 9.5 for about $1800.

I got my Warn 9.5XP (and before that a 9.5ti) from here: http://www.4wd.com/ (http://www.4wd.com/)
It was less than half the price, even with freight and other costs!!

9.5xp with synthetic for $1500! Woohoo can get the wireless as well, is the warn wireless any good?
-
...is the warn wireless any good?
nah, too much lag from the button push to the winch engaging. I'm going back to an in-cab switch. It is however handy when you're working in the garden and winching trees out >:D
-
How much was shipping?

Yup

Shipping from the US has just gone through the roof in the last couple of weeks. Something to do with unfunded pensions, or some such.

There is plenty of room but it would be a PIA to do. I fitted mine while fitting the bar.
-
 thanks for the link John. I ordered the 9.5XP with rope from them last night. I had to pay Florida taxes and the dollars tanked a little ??? Still did okay.
I liked D4Ds idea re the M12000 and could have got a 6 HP motor for $220. But I couldnt find any around offering rope, so that was another cost on top, they are heavier and a Lcooler confirmed to me last night definetly won't fit with bar on and as much as a pain it might be to get the winch off with the bar on I perfer to have that option.
So I guess my 200 build has started ;D
-
Mind if I ask how much you got it for ... maybe looking to upgrade to a 12 or 15 my self soon.
Thanks
