If your going camping this weekend any where along the Qld coast you had better check the weather. 20 - 40 mm expected all along the coast from Friday, some places like Hervey Bay could get over 80mm on Friday.
The cyclone which is now a low is heading down the coast.
-
The weather is not looking too bad in Vic at the moment, but as us Mexicans know it is subject to change ;D

Victoria, beautiful one day and only god knows the next!!
-
Should be fine over here in the south west.
-
Gloucester area is wet but not big numbers apart from Sunday. Temps are still up in the high 20s though.
I'll still be going out....................cowboy the %^&$ up people!
Cheers

one of our number has a dreadful cold, so we may be giving the camping thing a miss.............but if we dont drag the camper out we will head up to Barrington for a days driving

Rain with the possibilty of showers or storms.

Biggest issue in camping in Vic is the fire danger ....

Victoria, beautiful one day and only god knows the next!!
It keeps.us on our toes mate!!
BTW, not too many of us cancelling our camping this weekend, unlike the mob in Old. >:D ;D

Found this on Facebook:
The Premier has just announced that water will be drawn down from the Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine dams from this afternoon in preparation for expected heavy rainfall in the catchment area and South East Queensland this weekend.
Good news is, that much less water will be used for the slip & slide we're getting set up tomorrow!
-
I actually rang SEQ water today as one of the ladies who just purchased a house in the "flood zone" is Shitting bricks right now ... apparently she's "going under" and only had the house a month (can't stand Drama Queens!) and has left work early to Prepare For The Worst (or get in some extra drinking time I'm guessing ...) anyway, SEQ Water said that the release will be either tonight or tomorrow and they will be releasing 41,000 mega whatever's to bring the dam back to 75% over the next few days.

Actually down from 91% to 89% or thereabouts ... ie not much.
http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/environment/weather/wivenhoe-to-release-water--but-not-on-seqwaters-advice-20130125-2dbkl.html (http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/environment/weather/wivenhoe-to-release-water--but-not-on-seqwaters-advice-20130125-2dbkl.html)
I'm not sure why they'd bother with such a small release - but given the forecast a series of releases over the next 3 days is probably prudent.
-
Weather forecast in NSW has been for significant falls all Lang the coast down to the Hunter.

If you are heading up to the North or Mid-north Coast this weekend to go camping or caravanning, you might encounter both river and flash flooding and strong winds as ex-tropical cyclone Oswald passes by. The picture from the BoM shows over 200mm of rain likely for Monday (and it's similar for Sunday).
Please camp on high ground, make sure your exit route is not likely to be closed by floodwater, camp in an open area well clear of trees and have an emergency kit.
If you do need help, call the NSW SES on 132 500 or 000 if it is a life threatening emergency.
-
wouldn't be going anywhere to camp this weekend... wet and miserable....
-
We had booked up for Bigriggen, Nr Rathdowney, QLD, paid as well, but cannot risk the weather predictions - no way are we fairweather campers, but persistent rain and 'damaging' winds, err I'll leave it thanks. :(
-
Hi all
Here in bundy we haved had showers ;D starting from wednesday night hasnt stopped drizzling ;D tipped out over 250mm out of the gauge so far over the two days and dosnt look like letting up any time soon not bad for a shower,

-
130mm at our place so far, but we still have the wet stuff coming down from Bundy yet
-
Yes it is going to be a very interesting weekend, there is another Low Pressure system following this one by Monday. Lets hope we do not get a 1974 flood which occured on the
Australia Day weekend.
-
We have had to chicken out as the forecast for Gloucester was over 160mm of rain for the three days of the weekend - which has really sh1tted me off but two boys in the CT under 10 would not make for a pleasant weekend
We will be going up to the tops on Sunday for a wheel tho - should be fun if they get the rain they are supposed to
Cheers

So will reschedule another weekend. Not complaining about the rain as I'm pumping all the water to my holding tanks. Cheers throw a chop on the BBQ

Rain is just getting heavier here. Glad we hadn't planned a weekend get away. Feel sorry for those that had. Going to sit tight and grab some movies and popcorn. All the gutters are cleaned out. Not much more we can do. The family room was full of ants this morming. Be safe everyone. HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY.
-
Rain has been pretty constant this morning in Gympie, wasn't raining when I woke but for the last couple of hours it hasn't stopped. Had about 120mm in the last 24 hrs here.
Looks like a good day to go to the movies to me
-
Traveled up to coffs from the central coast this morning a couple of small showers on the way but sitting at nana glen at the inlaws no rain but plenty of humidity, they even want me to mow the lawn.
-
We've had over 700mm over the last fews days. Flood alerts out for Boyne Is. & Tanunm Sands. Awonga dam is running at about 4.5m over the wall. Countless roads flooded & damaged. Friends of ours about 50k's away have had 1500mm since this all started. Can't go north, south or west.
Looks like my roof is leaking in a few spots & have water damage to the gyprock ceiling in about 8 spots. Insurance claim coming up. First one ever.
Other than that everything is just peachy.
Cheers, Mike.
-
Just starting to get heavy rain in Warwick. So glad I'm not on the blacksoil at Gordon Country. May have been stuck there a week or more. Hang on, that may have been a good thing :D

Hope everyone stays safe on the roads! I saw a lot of camper trailers heading out yesterday so good luck to them! On the brightside my vegie garden is going nuts, on the downside i'll have lots of mowing to do next week...
cheers

Looks like we'll be making a claim to Clubmarine on Tuesday for damage to the boat. :'( :'( :'(
The port hole window in the bathroom has leaked and wet a perfectly good toilet roll that was sitting on the vanity bench top.
Unless i can unroll it and dry it out and reroll it again, the sh!ts gunna hit the fan when i ring the insurance mob.

I wanna see you roll it out and give it a good dry and then roll it up again trying to get all the sides back and matching - looking like a bought one that is. I mean, what else are you going to do now that you have no work due to the rain.

We were booked in to camp at Bundy, changed the plans when it got too wet and booked alternate accomodation on Thursday. Then all the roads are cut, can't even get to Rocky by the road warnings, having over 500mm rain locally so far. Now we're stuck at home, not happy. :'(

It just went really quiet a few minutes a go.... a kind of quiet before the storm sort of thing. ???
Nah, its all back on again... haven't checked the rain gauge yet, but weatherzone are saying we've had 210mm since 9am yesterday.
-
There is talk on the news of 500MM of rain to come in the next 24 hours in S/E QLD . What do you do with that much water . Good Luck Out there Stay safe

Had steady rain in nana glen all night 65mm in the gauge overnight well until it fell over, had to move it yesterday when I mowed the lawn lucky I didn't put in back up still raining steadily.
-
We were one of a number of campers who took off on friday for the long weekend at Somerset Dam. Not to bad friday and saturday morning, however looking at the forecast on saturday morning we decided to call it. Managed to get home and put the CT up in the garage - drying out. Good to get the canvas wet every now and then.
Feeling sorry for the others who decided to stay on.
Keep safe!

I'm in SEQ having about as un-fun a time as you can imagine, trying to sort my wife's Apple time capsule and also trying to get everything off my laptop and onto our windows fkn 8 craputer ...... I think I might go out to the shed :-) If I can work out where the "show us ya shed" thread is I'll post a pic..... ???
I guess it would be less fun with the flooding and tornados
-
I had 45mm overnight and had about that so far today. The wind has picked up from about lunchtime as has the rainfall. I drove down the CTA Canungra meet this morning only to find them all gone and the Coomera R up by 1.5mtrs ... Logan R is up to the picnic ground under the rail bridge at Yatala ... I'm on a hill so coping the wind and rain ... I have never experienced flooding here ... but it might be interesting getting to work on Tuesday if this keeps up.
I've heard Kilcoy and Esk are cut off.

I tipped about 95mm out of the rain guage this morning ( 5:00pm yesterday until 10:00am today) & it's filling agian. That's here in Sth Grafton up on the hill. I was down at Iluka on Friday arvo at mum's & had to take her down to do some shopping. We were talking to some oldies & a bloke from the SES & they were saying how much in common this pattern has with the pattern that produced the floods in 1974. I can remember where the water came to at home, but not the lead up( only that it was wet). It will be interesting to see what happens when the next ex cyclone comes South.
-
How devastating for the people in Woolooga, we go thru there quite a lot.
-
Only damage for us is the wet toilet roll mentioned earlier and our TV ariel seems to be stuffed now. :'(
Lots of boats have broken mooring lines or dragged anchors, with 3 i know sunk, one is in a park on the esplanade and lots pushed during the high tide onto the flats, including the Lady Woodward. Shes stuck and listing a little.
No campers or CT's as far as the eye can see here.
We'll be cut off until tomorrow, as Coondoo is 1.2 metres over the bridge.

Well, after reading the posts of the people up north, don't think I'll complain about the rain we camped in at Wombeyan caves last night. Hope everyone is safe up that way.

We've just returned home from the GoldCoast camping at big4 Treasure Island. We had a great weekend despite the wet weather.
-
Currently flooded in on Gympie Southside and likely to be this way for a few days yet, Mary River has backed up the creek in the only street out of where we are (sister in laws house) and we have no way out. Power went out at 5.00 a.m this morning and is still out now, Energex said it'd be back on at 5.30 p.m first up then changed it to 11.00 p.m, but I'll be surprised if it's on when I wake in the morning, as they'll be struggling to get access around here anywhere with the amount of flooding that has happened.
-
It's 4:30 am and been stuck in floodwaters in the middle of nowhere since 10pm last night. Stuck south of Beaudesert can't go forward or back. Gone for a few drives with others in a few 4wds to check but still too deep to try, it's an ocean out here. There's snakes and spiders all over the roads trying to get away.
Cheers
-
As expected, no power on this morning yet. Mary River has risen substantially over night so we won't be going anywhere for days yet. I woke thinking it was raining heavy here this morning, but it was just the sound of the river rushing down stream.
-
Still stuck in floodwaters!
-
Stay safe Mal, won't ya mate. Looks like a few days of for you this week. I am sitting at home, and the wind has been wild all night and doesn't look like stopping

What a wasted long weekend.
Now the power has gone off so a challenge to get into the garage ( auto doors) and to get out the front gate ( auto gate)
All good when there is power but not so good without.
Hope the Movie theatre has power!!!

Yes it's around that spot i believe. Finally managed to get a few home by about 5pm this arvo after trying to get home last night. There's a fair bit of damage to roads, shops are all picked clean, servo's are out of fuel and can't get restocked. We had 340ml rain in 24hr. Here's some more pics:
This bridge was out for 20 hrs. One that we had to cross to get some friends home.

Logan River cuts Mt Lindsay Hwy at Laravale. If you watched 7 news and saw the boys getting recovered from their swamped ute that was on the other side of this river, about 900 metres on the other side. This should go down by 8am tomorrow.

high and dry and staying safe mate, could have tried to get out through fast flowing waters Sunday morning but it just wasn't worth the risk, rather lose a few days off work then lose our lives trying to crossing a swollen creek flowing as quickly as this was.Hope you haven't run out of rum mal...
Stay safe mate..
funny thing is, Friday night just after 9.00 p.m i stopped in at The Jockey Club on the way past and grabbed an extra carton of Bundy cans incase we got flooded in...now that's planning for ya 8) 8) ;D ;D better planning would have been to leave 30 minutes earlier then we tried to do on Sunday morning, we would have made it out then >:( >:( ;D ;D
power is back on here we we are, massive thanks for the hard working guys who are restoring power to the grid all around effected parts of Qld whilst we sit at home nice and comfy.

We have had about 350mm in the last three days, down our way, but nothing like it has been north of the border. The rain cleaned out all of the caravan parks from kingscliff to Pottsville. With only the odd one out, like at Pottsville, this morning, the CT was there, but the tent had fallen down. Looked like they had abandoned ship during the night. The seas were huge with very, very strong winds. There was even a couple of fisherman on the beach at Cabaritta and Kingscliff break walls.

Hope they weren't trying to cast into it, would have been going backwards..This was Lennox point this arvo, pretty massive and windy as, prob breaking 500m offshore at the beach. Was expecting to see some euro in a wicked van having a crack but alas I overestimated their stupidity level.

Flemo, It was a double take there for a minute, because that is almost exactly what my pics looked like from Caba & Hasto's headland.

finally just on midnight we are home 8) 8)
had to drive through some flood water still to get out, nothing serious as we waited until after dinner to be sure it wouldn't be a drama (could have left around 5.00 - 6.00 p.m at bonnet deep but decided to wait more to be sure no water would enter the vehicle), had to take some diversions as the way we intended getting out still was flooded in some parts, but once onto the hwy South of Gympie it was a good run home.
yard looks to need a small tidy up, but on the up side we haven't lost power here at any stage by the looks of it, so the stuff in the fridge should be edible still.
will post some pics up tomorrow when i get a chance
