Hi there
Returned from 4 days away up at South West Rocks, the other day. Pulled into the south-bound Service Centre on the F3. Saw the 'Cars with Trailers' sign for parking and found all the spots taken up by cars without trailers!!! >:( >:(
Drives you nuts, doesn't it!!
Any other war stories from the road you're willing to share??
Cheers
-
Hey Bockstar it happens all the time with trucks >:( you trundle down the road to where you know there is a high flow deisel pump, and what happens, some dweeb is parked in front of it while he goes and gets his morning coffee, sandwich and packet of fags. just ignorant pr**ks

.........the trip home.........
-
At those servos I normally park out the back in the truck area, there is never parking out the front with a trailer on.
At one of our local servo's there is always cars and bikes parked in front of the diesel pump, you should have seen the look on one blokes face change when I told the girl behind the counter I had filled the diesel bike aswell as my truck.
-
Coming back from Kununurra several years ago, I pulledd up, away from any truck stop and parking bay, and started my gen set to keep my fridges running overnight. Another person pulled up near me, about two hours later, they had something to eat, then came and asked me to turn off my gen set. I told them, not so politely, to drive to the parking bay 25 km's down the road.
Although it was not an actual CT, I used my trailer to camp in, hope that qualifies.

Not having a CT! Gotta get one soon.
-
Despite the fact you are doing 110km/hr in a 100 zone, people just HAVE to overtake you because they don't want to get suck behind the guy with a trailer!

X 2. Was only talking to a guy this morning about same thing.

You just described every truck driver on the road...

You just described every truck driver on the road...... ???
every truck driver?
really....ya gotta be kidding ::)
-
Ok maybe that was harsh, how about 'every truck driver who has tampered with their speed limiter'
-
Ok maybe that was harsh, how about 'every truck driver who has tampered with their speed limiter'
if a driver has tampered with the trucks speed limiter then they deserve all that comes to him/her in fines etc i agree. i have been driving interstate for over 25 years and in that time ( working for several different companies) i have never been in a truck that does more then 105 klm/h. at the end of the day i as would 99% of other drivers want to get home to my family in one piece. EVERYONE needs to be a bit more patient and need to understand they we all have a job to do/ be somewhere and respect the other persons driving experience/or lack of .

and then they get in front of you and slow down to 95, but then speed up to 120 when an overtaking lane comes up. >:(

or they overtake you, ..... after sitting on your tail , almost riding in the boot,
and then turn off as soon as they get in front of you !!!!
Grrrrrrrr!!!!!
-
When all you need is a diesel pump, and there's only one in the servo, and there's a little petrol car filling up and there's 2 or 3 petrol pumps vacant. Although that gives me the s**ts all the time!
Regarding trucks, I find them useful wooducks when they're travelling fast, and am quite happy to sit behind them!
-
The east west truck driver that has his bum on the white line and is about a 1m into your lane and does not budge for on coming traffic so you end up half on the gravel half on the road >:(
-
I never have issues with trucks, I find them to be the most consistent of drivers, and courteous. Really.
Folks who sit in the right hand lane and won't pull left annoy me, whether I'm towing a camper, a tractor or just solo. And those who brake when passing an oncoming vehicle. Why???????
-
I love it when we open the weighbridge, all the trucks pull up about 5 kays down the road and hurriedly fill in log books. So in order to combat that we drive down to where they pull up and give them tickets for parking in the emergency lane. :cup:

Warning to all truck drivers, if you see a really short policeman, stop writing, or keep your log books in a prono mag, that should distract the police....... >:D >:D >:D

I've got a list as long as my arm.
I wont bore you all with it ;D but a lot of has been mention above.
last year what I did notice while traveling, in the 6600k's we did, most drivers had good road manners and I didn't have a problem until I got closer to the coast.
From Geelong to Albury, people road skills went down hill. From Wagg Wagga to Tamworth, again we didn't have any one doing stupid things.
So as we climbed up to The New England and then down to home at Lawrence the idiots seem to appear. Overtaking on blind cnrs, braking for no apparent reason, inconsistent speeds, tailgating, pulling out onto the main road and traveling at 80k's.It just seems to be a sign of the times, we have to drive watching for every other idiots bad driving.
On the other side of things, doesn't make a road trip great when motorist do the right thing and everything flows. ;D

You should come and drive on the same roads as I do. >:( >:(

What if I tell you the truck over heated and the computer shut it down?
and they do just shut down too Dave......one of our Stirling i was driving did just that. i got about 5 seconds warning. the computer cant tell if there is a designated parking bay up ahead or not. even my crystal ball couldn't preempt that .

My pet hate is people who merge onto the freeway at 80 ks and not 100
so every one has to stand on the brakes to let the morons in >:(
-
When you go to a catch up & every body arrives , having driven past the " Take your rubbish home " sign . Then they have a wonderful fun time , then leave every empty can/bottle in a pile for somebody else to clean up . TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME >:D. dont leave it for the last to leave to do . ......................
-
Pet hate for me is those coppers logs or posts that stop vehicles / CT's from entering what would be prime camping areas........ just last night we went for a drive just south of Cairns to one of the creeks..... found a nice little spot, lovely gentle stony creek, sand beaches, crystal clear water, this spot is out of the way... i thought, i'll have to bring the CT back out here for a night or two..... closer inspection though, the "potential" camp area is surrounded by lovely trees, and where one would access the camp area, some f*ck Knuckle has decided it would be best to concrete in a few posts........... p*sses me off!!!

Merging traffic don't have right of way they must give way and merge safely.
-
My pet hate RAIN, just got back from the "sunshine" coast it started to rain an hour after set up and stopped a week later when we managed an hour to pack up.
-
Merging traffic don't have right of way they must give way and merge safely.
Having right of way won't make it hurt any less when you run into them because they didn't pick a safe gap.
There is some old saying about Being right or being dead or to some such effect that I believe applies in this case.
-
Moorons that have 3ks to overtake on an overtaking lane, but choose to do so in the last 100m after tailgating you 2.9ks!!
But they do get Shitty when I merge as they do!!!
-
Right of way makes no difference, common sense does......................... 8)

or the morons who have been behind you for the last 10 k's and all of a sudden they overtake you and put the brakes on and exit in front of you.

I hate it when theres an empty lane beside them yet they wont move into it to allow the other vehicle a safe merge.

That's where some steel spikes, 2ft of chain and your hi lift jack come in handy. Not many posts can put up that good of a fight.

Why not winch some gates out on closed tracks whilst you are at it ::)

People who can't maintain a constant speed, in a 100 zone they do anything from 80 to 110 >:D

There are thousands of these around the country, yet so many drivers ignore them.

I don't know why they both to erect them.

There was a big article recently stating the Gov Tax collectors were going to start cracking down hard on people doing this...
Yet to see ONE person nailed... They could start on Eastlink anytime from midnight to midnight 20days a week.

If you do the right thing, you shouldn't have a problem with the Police, right 8)
My pet hate are tailgaters, car or truck, although a lot more of a problem when it's a truck, at least the car has more of a chance to stop, if you need to stop suddenly.
-
Just thought of another pet hate.
Anyone that travels the Pathetic H'Way, knows the speed camera at The old Tick Gates at New Italy.
Everybody is happily traveling at 100kph, as soon as the camera is in sight everyone drops to 80kph.
I have traveled that road for nearly 30 years, and have driven through that speed camera at 100kph(when ever I get the chance) and never been booked. Why do people slow down for it? Then at the first overtaking lane heading south, yep everyone speeds up to 110kph+.
I guess there would other places around the country the same.

every fixed camera on earth they do that...
every overtaking lane on earth they do that...

Don't know, cause, the one at Wardel, just south of Ballina, nobody seems to slow for it,motorist seem to speed up for it, another one is on the Tweed Valley Bypass. One they do slow for it the one at the bottom of St Helena, near The Bay.
The one the Hardwood bridge, they have to now, It's a work zone and will be for a long time to come as the duplicate the bridge across the Clarence River.
Haven't seen many slow down for the ones on the Freeway between Fingal/Kings Cliff and Brissy.
I can't comment on the ones south of Grafton, I don't travel that road, about once every two years.
I don't understand why H'way patrol cop cars have to be bright colours. They stand out like Dog Dusters.
That's just advertizing their presence.
Bring back the 'Pigs In Space'

Mate, they can't read- it says AVERAGE speed camera!!! Currently designed to catch speeding truckies between Harwood Is. bridge & New Italy, but it won't be long when it starts fining all vechicles

Nah mate that is just to get it up out of the floods at interchange, bridge duplication is 5 yrs away at best, will be last thing on the hwy between coffs and ballina to dupe that ol girl!
I follow trucks thru there regularly and they slow down from serpentine to let the time pass. Listened to two the other week count down the seconds half way across the bridge then they floored it. Not sure how they police it now with devils pulpit speed zones tho.

Cheers mate,
I was given the wrong info the other day then by a bloke who's been working on the barge at the bridge, He does like a smoke as well :D
-

Sorry. No. Definitely not legitimate ones. My beef has only ever been with "self appointed" guardians.
-

whats the first thing people do when they see a cop car?? slow down.. bright colours are great gives the impression that there are millions of them on the road (specially when they are having a BLITZ "WE WILL BE OUT IN FORCE"...._)when theres really only 3.
-
I can see the reasoning behind that, but why not have unmarked cars?
Motorists would not who was a copper or not.
I asked for H'way Patrol to have an unmarked car come and sit in amongst the cars parked at our local school, some parents drive like idiots, and others use the street in front of the school as a short cut through town.
Atm, the H'way patrol sits in full view, so someone from some 300 meters away can see them like a pimp on a nose.
Also, when one parent sees the car, they phone everyone else to let them know.
The Copper told me,
We can't have a patrol car sit in amongst the cars around the school because that is 'Entrapment' and having the car visible stops people from speeding.
I asked him, isn't better to have motorists think that there isn't a patrol car is around the school, Oh what a surprise when they get pinged.
He told me that it is better to have a car visible so nobody speeds, this is proactive Policing.
I told it him it was BS policing.
In 30 0dd years,
I've been fined once for speeding.
Once for overtaking across double yellow lines.
Once for not having my licence on me,
And once for Noisy exhaust due to management of vehicle. ???
Now, I'm not saying that I don't break the road rules or speed.
-
What about when there's an overtaking lane so you pull over to the left . When it comes time to merge some peanut who's overtaking , obviously with the cruise control on , gradually comes alongside you and you're forced to brake at the end of the mergin lane to pull in behind him .
Cheers
Ross

I get really frustrated when you spend months planning and saving for a family trip, finally get on the road and come across some d&#k head in a rush through a regional town/hwy who has to pass you into no gap an slam on the breaks so they don't hit the ass of the car in front only to arrive at the next traffic light!
Also all of the above. I don't if some idiot wants to wipe themselves out being impatiant or stupid but when they put your family in danger, that becomes frustrating.
A couple of years ago we were towing a trailer between Macky and QLD. A bloke driving from Sydney to Townsville non-stop went to sleep and side swiped our new Patrol ($30 000 damage)
-
What about the pesky3% that just wont see eye to eye with anybody . In almost every survey there they are stuffing up the figures . There they are poping their 3% heads up just to be differant , Is just a small group of us , no them that are out there >:D
