Every body has their price ;D ;D ;D

Holy cow! Pages would load before you clicked the link with speed like that. It's a bit better than me, and mine is smokin hot compared to others. Not bad for a small town west of Toowoomba though.
Thought I would try it again 8 months later

Hi Silvo, It's BigPond Cable Ultimate. After the upgrade, my old router maxed out at 25mbs. An upgrade to the latest and greatest router now gets me 116mbs wired and 115mbs wireless.
I didn't want this thread to become a p**sing match, but it is interesting what kind of connections fellow swaggers connect to this forum with. Decent internet all helps us experience myswag in all its glory.

Well thanks to my uni student daughter downloading a whole $h!tload of stuff my connection has been shaped for the next few days but thanks to the big T I can only get ADSL1 and lucky to get that being firmly planted on a RIM. I have neighbours that cannot get anything other than dial up as there is a shortage of dslam ports and wireless is a big blackspot. Right in the middle of an affluent suburb (we are the poor neighbours so to speak).
Come on NBN

My mum lives in an area where there's barely dialup. I managed to get her a duplex satellite broadband connection for nothing. Then she just went on a $20 per month casual connection. Government pays up to $2500 to get it all installed. Anyway... worth checking out if you're in a broadband blackspot.

What service type are you using? ADSl just can't go that fast, especially up.

I never thought anyone would be happy with telstra, especially as there's no real competition.

Try living in WA.
No wonder I spend 'hours' on myswag.
Did the speed test tonight.

I have Telstra Cable in Perth, not too bad and happy enough with the speed.

Boy am I happy, just got a letter stating that our street has been upgraded to ADSL2. Afterr moving into a new estate with 50 house, underground power and telephone cables, you would think they would put cable in. Nope don't wanna. So after 8 years we finally have ADSL2 and we signed up again with iprimus as we save 25 a month against Telstra. Yippeeeeeeeeee!!?

The Dark Side is an understatement...More like Daylight robbery from Optus....Then there's the other robbers but heah you get what your more willing to pay for... ;D ;D

I have 100mbps download from Telstra, but it took me 10 years of complaining. I couldn't have internet and Foxtel at the same time because the signal was so poor (signal strength was -17, for the technical minded). Telstra is the only provider in my street. I have upgraded to every deal they claimed would fix my problem and nothing ever changed except I paid Telstra more money.
This time they replaced the cable into the house (not an easy task I admit), but in doing so they put in a new pit on the footpath (which isn't really a pit, it's a lid over a hole in the ground - no joke. Yes I reported it) They cut through two irrigation pipes, pulled out 15 mtrs of irrigation pipes that wasn't near where they entered the property, broke a block in a retainer wall, disconnected the pool pump and left a pile of unused cement on the footpath. While the kids were at school they would go to friends to use the internet when it wasn't working.
A big thanks to Telstra for finally giving me the service I have been paying for for 10 years.
I have quality internet, the complaining is all in the past and my therapist assures me my anxiety will lessen with time.

Roll on the NBN?
down 0.17, up 0.34, speedtest.net (mbps)
Thinking of changing the settings to read kbps, at least then it might look like it's doing something.
And my wife wonders why I spend hours on myswag.org
Technology at its best!!
-
Just gets worse
speedtest.net
down, 0.14
Up, 0.04
Not being on mswag.org. all day had been frustrating and painstakingly annoying.
-
>:(. So much for ADSL2, my speed hasnt changed from :'(. ADSL. But I shouldn't complain. 12.02mpbs just now.
Wyno

Hooray!! Good old Telstra, just got our monthly account on-line along with the good news that our line rental and call charges are going up as of first of next month.
I guess it's "because they can" Bast**ds >:(
-
This thread got me thinking.. I had switched to Homeline uUtimate 100gig over 2 yrs ago (teenage daughters that's why), Telstra gave me a new Netgear CGD24N v2 that came with the plan.
My BROTHER told me at the time don't worry about ihooking it up, makes no difference blah blah blah.
Anyway... looked up the specs of the old Motorola surfboard modem, it's maxed at 30mbps, It can't take any more than that and not really good with networking.
So toughed out the install process and hooked up the Netgear..
Instantly up from 27.93 to 31.13 download speed.
I'm gonna rub his nose in this!
-
Considering I'm 50 clicks out of town and probably 8 clicks from the nearest rural exchange, this isn't a bad result.
Although, that is ADSL2... ???
My switch packed it in recently. (I have ethernet to nearly every room of the house and garage) Maybe a new modem/router with more ports could be a way to get better bandwidth. Won't do anything about the line noise or attenuation though.
-
Just installed a splitter so I will see if it gets any better.

Hi,
I had Telstra phone and ADSL bundled, thinking is has got to be cheaper.
I also have a wireless modem for the camper.
ADSL is 5Gb Wireless is 4Gb, both run the same renewal dates.
The idea was to run the ADSL up to 5Gb and switch over to the wireless for the remaining 4Gb in the last week or so. That is about our average usage.
However the kids came down for the weekend and gobbled up a fair whack of the ADSL
Ok, we need to up the ADSL plan for the month.
But with a bundled service, you can't change plans on the web, it has to be done by phone, which is tedious, especially with an unfamiliar accent, no matter how helpful and knowledgeable the person is.
I ended up un-bundling the phone/ADSL ($10 more expensive), dropped the 4Gb wireless to 0.4Mb (it is very slow at our place) and upped the ADSL to 25Gb, which will cost just a bit more in total for the month.
I think the cheapest option would be to go for a faster line with a huge down load availability and share it amongst the neighbours with wifi.
Never had to worry too much about downloads before I retired - but that is the only thing I miss.
cheers

I went from a 12Gb plan to a 500Gb plan and it was cheaper through a Phone/Internet bundle that having them separated. Given my network speeds, I doubt I'd be able to actually download that much in a month. I simply looked at it from the finance side of things. It's cheaper and I get more bandwidth - I couldn't do anything about the speed anyway - too far from the exchange...
Don't forget that if your modem network connection speeds are low and you are sharing that amongst a few PC's the modem becomes a bottleneck and nobody gets anything through...

Booyah!

We were in Redcliffe (north Brisbane) the other week and were getting these speeds.
Just south of Hobart at the moment and getting these speeds.
At home, 3 hours north of Brisbane, we usually get these speeds. (With external antenna) So I am still very happy with the 4g mobile USB. Kevin
