Deffinately, I mean if their sales staff aren't professional IT types with a great knowledge of internet security then can you imagine what their trailer builders are like. They probably have no freakin idea about the culture of Tibetan monk youth either...LMAO

Seems like the Market Direct website has been hacked by some Turkish group.
Doesn't leave me with a lot of confidence in the brand.

Because their site gets hacked you immediately assume their product is crap .
This would have to be one of the most stupid things I have heard anyone say !
What about all the forums that seem to have been targeted lately .. are they untrustworthy as well .. should you not go onto them ?

A obscure business is a less likely target for publicity, more likely for financial gain.
Put your mind at ease. Website hackers and defacers target any soft targets, big or small. A few years ago I was the lead tech for a web hosting company. It's almost a full time job on its own staying up with the latest attack methods. The trend to interactive, database driven websites just gives them so many openings. Hackers can simply use Google to search for sites that have certain software with certain flaws running, for example. I wouldn't let a website defacement put you off your decision. Have a look at the Trackabout coming back thread. They have something going on with their site, but I doubt it would stop you buying one if they met your needs, right? :cheers:

Look the sky is falling! Thousands of web sites get hacked every day, even big companies get hacked. Most likely their web site will be hosted somewhere in the US and their business will run on a completely separate system. I don't think I'd make a decision on buying a trailer based on their web site security.

I would be very surprised if their website had anything to do with their on-premise systems, their credit card processing, or anything else relating to personal details. Now, I may very well be wrong, but I wouldn't be concerned.
To be honest, I'd probably prefer that my camper trailer manufacturer was a better welder than an infosec person. ;D
Now - as for the original topic of "does your website being hacked affect consumer perception of your brand", I think you've answered your own question with the Sony incident. The answer is "yes, but people forget quick".
And when I saw your topic, my first thought was the Chinese hackers want their trailers back. ;D

I work in hosting, and can tell you it costs a lot to protect a site against being hacked... and most small business' simply don't consider themselves enough of a target, or get enough revenue through the web to spend what it costs to protect from the risks....

True... If the FBI, and US Gov sites get hacked with their paid onsite security experts , what do you think some tiny camper trailer company would have??
And hacking a website which wont be hosted on the business premises, means nothin' about their financial stuff on their internal onsite computers. It would be 2 totally different networks.
