Hi Rod,

Keeping in mind I have no idea about the price of Hiluxes (other than that they hold their value well like a typical Toyota), I look at your ad and think "$22k for an almost 10yr old dual cab? With the petrol motor?". That's probably a bit harsh, but is my honest initial reaction. Again, may be more representative of my lack of what second-hand hiluxes command in the second hand market.

Obviously what's in your favour is that the car presents very well (that canopy looks a lot better than most), has low kms and looks to have really been taken good care of. The extra fruit on it, unfortunately (as I've just learned myself) doesn't count for much to a prospective buyer (other than The One, that mythical buyer who is holding out for exactly what you've got).

I guess the big question is how long have you had it advertised for, and how quickly do you want/need to offload it? Supply and demand - if you need it gone quicker, drop the price. If you're happy to wait for that mythical One, then keep going as you are.

Don't discount how much difference good photos can make to a car ad, if you've got it on carpoint/carsales. Most people's photos are downright terrible, so you don't need to do much to make your car stand out. Give it a good wash, and take it down to a nearby park (or somewhere wide open, with minimal background distractions) if you haven't already.

If you don't already have it on carpoint/carsales, I'd suggest that too. It's cheap ($60), and stays there for as long as it takes to sell. Likewise, stick big For Sale signs on it and leave it parked out front your work / on a main road somewhere. Just beware of the cops hassling you - I didn't have a problem, but have heard of others getting in trouble for doing that. Most of our inquiries came from carsales and people seeing it out front work - the local paper was a very expensive diversion for us.

Good luck with it - it can be a frustrating process. I thought our little Subaru would have sold quickly, but it ended up taking us almost 3 months and a lot of stuffing around with buyers. Eventually sold for significantly less than the listing price. But getting people interested is the first step, and to do that you need to get it in front of as many eyeballs as possible.

Good luck with the sale!
Matto :)

Rod,
In my opinion it is a little high, I too have the same year hilux. I would be thinking drop it below $20k and you should get some bites. Nice looking rig though. Its definitly got lots going for it low klms, sr5 lots of fruit. Stick with it and as Matto said Carsales is the go!  Good luck

Hi Rod
Most important thing I have learned from selling cars/bikes/trailers etc is that you must have patience waiting for that one person. They will be around but you have to have the world/universe/SWMBO in synch for you to be selling and for them to be buying. Most times they are hard to coincide. Else it is the drop the price routine. However in saying that:

My most crazy sale was we had a 93 laser for sale a few years ago for $4000 priced for a quick sale. Had it in all the usual places for sale etc and wasn't selling even though the price was low. Mate came over and said to me the price is too low & people would think there is something wrong with it. Wait a few weeks and readvertise it for $6000. OK what did I have to lose. Did that and the first day it was up again I had a guy ring me at 6AM, was there at 6:30 and paid full price in folding stuff. That same day I had about 10 calls wanting to look at it and this went on for 3 weeks. Moral of the story is what ever I do I can hardly ever win.  I just wish I had a dozen of these for sale then.
Hope it sells for you, It's a nice looking truck for sure. If it were diesel I would maybe looking at it myself.
As others have said carsales.com.au is a great avenue.

Agree with all the above:

A little high, not a deisel. Unfortunately all the extra gear doesnt mean a lot until the stars align and someone says "thats my truck".  Stick $19900 on it, at least if its on carsales and someone does a search, that price will fall in the commonly used price brackets <$20k.

Nice looking Truk BTW (oops, sorry, I heard we arnt allow to abrevi8 on myswag anymore)   ;D ;D

It depends how quick you want to offload it

If your in a hurry, mark the price appropriately

If your in no rush, then go top $, but dont expect 2 calls a day :)

If you put it on the road anywhere make sure the price can be read whilst driving past, If there is a price that can be seen on it more people are likley to stop and check it out.

Just add it to the price and call it an advertising fee.
