SO I called the company and it is strange as they cant tell me where it was from... their computer only shows them the last 12 months...

Good on you Lost for bringing this up!
There's gazillions in lost super out there so if you think you have any lost super go for it because this is your retirement money.
Let me tell you the govt has it's eye on it to cover it's defecit on it so get to it before they do!
also try ausfund, they are a major resting spot for lost super send from other funds that have lost contact with members, very easy to check
http://unclaimedsuper.com.au/index.html
another tip, if you are rolling from one super fund to another, use the rollover form from the one you are rolling from rather than the new fund.
I find that these funds are happier to process their own forms as opposed to someone elses, in addition not all funds have the same ID conditions so be aware of that.
I have to say this next bit because I work for an AFSL licence holder.
*Before rolling super it's important to seek qualified financial advice
*Be aware that if you roll out of a super fund you may cancel any insurance you currently hold within the fund
-
Just done it, no luck :-[.
Cheers,
Richard.

Hi,
checked it years ago and found $30 from some dividends that were change from a shares reinvestment that got taken over.
The paper work and running around seemed too much effort for the amount of cash.
cheers

You might also want to check out your state revenue office as well for unclaimed monies. For example, here is the NSW website:

by far the best site is the ATO's super seeker site
http://www.ato.gov.au/super/content.aspx?doc=/content/33301.htm (http://www.ato.gov.au/super/content.aspx?doc=/content/33301.htm)
There's 2 versions
one is simple and just needs your TFN, name and DOB
the other is more involved but once you are in it will show any super you possess that links to your TFN
also Super Trace, needs name DOB and postcode
http://www.supertrace.com.au/ (http://www.supertrace.com.au/)
and for a bit of fun.. just whack in your name!

that time of year again to have a search :)
-
Diggity dig.
Interesting.
My uncle died in 2009, and I've just done a search on his name - 2 bank accounts come up in his name, with 2 decent amounts in them.
https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/tools-and-resources/find-unclaimed-money/unclaimed-money-search (https://www.moneysmart.gov.au/tools-and-resources/find-unclaimed-money/unclaimed-money-search)
One in Westpac, and one in St George.
Called The Moneysmart people, who told me what she *thinks* we need to do... ??? ??? arent they holding the cash? surely they know..
Then called the bank, 35 mins on hold to St George bloke 1000% couldnt be ****ed trying to help..
"sorry, but since there is no signatory alive theres no way you can get it mate"... He was in AU, but now I know why Shit goes to Mumbai.
Now on hold with Westpac (only 45mins so far), the poor young dude there was very helpful, and said he would put me onto a senior team member to find out the process to go thru to get this 20 odd grand.
Then, go here and see some of the unclaimed cash

I think you may have to notify the executors of his estate of these amounts, who should notify the estate solicitor. Unfortunately it means they will get their cut for extracting it too!

My oldman wasnt told he died. He found out when dad went to call him...18 mths later.
They then contacted the cops to find out what happened to him, but the cops gave mum the run around and all sorts fo 3 bear stories for months. Theres a lot to be said for being able to go face to face with people... You dont get bent over and lied to and fobbed off... Dad just wanted all the old photos and stuff..
So I think I need to start with Trustee's, and faeces.

Tj
yes you can access super before retirement age. Here's how..in very basic form
Death - balance and whatever insurance is in there goes to beneficiaries or estate.
(OK death joke aside)
Totally & permanently disabled (TPD) - if you are ill or injured and can't work permantly at the job you're reasonably trained for, it's possible to access the super and take benefits as a lump sum or pension.
In some cases, temporary disabled, yes it's possible too
Hardship provisions - various reasons there as mentioned in that link from UIZ
Over 55 - transition to retirement (TTR) while still working. wonderful thing.. salary sacrifice some $$ into super, pay lower tax than marginal rates to put it there and take some back out as a small pension to supplement the income. The Govt has clipped it's wings somewhat but worthwhile if you are right age, got a reasonable taxable income and the right amount in super to start with. For this, best see a financial adviser qualified in retirement strategies who can do some sums a a see what's possible.
I know there's some Financial Advisers on the forum who can also help with general info.
Approach your super fund for info to get the right interpretations of what they can do.
-
Unfortunately by the time I retire there will have been so many changes in government that the rules will have changed so much, I won't get a zac.
Just like everything else.
Oh sorry sir, you earn too much, you work too hard, here now you must give us some for those who haven't worked.
Far too risky for me.
Self investments, pay the tax now, then whats left is mine.
Of course by the time I retire GST will be about 99.7 percent so I'll be screwed anyway.
They get you any way they can.
That reminds me, I need to talk to my financial advisor in Nigeria, a few things to follow up on.......

Still worth checking!

They don't always make it easy.
Bird read your run around from back in 2013 sounds similar to my grandmother.
My grandfather worked all his life for the British Government in the Army and then police. When he died in the 60's his wife should have got his pension. But as she couldn't provide his National Insurance number (UK's version of TFN) they wouldn't give it to her. She had everything else, wills, birth certs, property deeds, marriage certs, government records from their 20 years together (they both worked for the colonial government in Africa), ships manifests from their trips etc. etc.
But still, NO.... you need to give us his NI number. So she struggled on for another 40 odd years without it.
