Will Lowdsey and Skaife conquer the mountain again?
-
well it will either be a falcondore or a a commonwhore
I use to go every year and loved bathurst but now they are driving the same cars it's a tad boring
on tv today they had some old footage of brock on the mouton (I'm not a brock fan) but that was driving!!! every corner the back is out and you can see the skill required not saying then new drivers don't have skill.
I did a couple of laps with Tander around Oran park just before it closed and the cars are just too good you come into a corner and think you have gone in to hot then on the other side of the corner you realise it had way more grip.
God I sound old.. Back in my day
-
Missed it last year being overseas and it seems my skills are not needed this year so I'm taking the wife and her X-Trail north for some fun in the mud behind Coffs Harbour.....
-
Mark Skaife has a massive nose. ???
-
Will be there next week. I should rent the house out and take the KK away instead. Some friends of mine did it last year and got $3k for the week in rent.

Jas

yes.... :cup:

Same, used to go the Monday before and come home the Monday after each year. Fantastic break up on top of the mountain. Pretty disillusioned with the V8s. They are not Holdens or fords, just bodies of those cars with totally different gear to what we can buy to drive on the road and they get told what to use for so many components of the car that there isn't that much difference between the cars anyway. Went to the 12 hour race a couple of years ago, that was good but doesn't have the big event atmosphere that the V8s has.
Dave
-
I hope Holdsworth gets a good run at it this year.............shame he will be in a FORD ( I think)
-
I camped at the top of the mountain last year but the nephews have taken the campsite this year after the Denni ute muster, am here for the Masters in Adelaide this year but will make the trek next year, before all the " rule changes"
-
its the only race i watch now,, ps go the HOLDENS >:D

it is still racing though, and the mountain just adds that extra element on the unknown.
looking forward to it. 8)

The worst thing is that 90% of the field are just there to make up numbers...
The word "Tad" is an understatement...
-
Alot of them seem to be guys that can pay to have a race...........it's obviously a fair bit of coin, but they must have some skills............I would hate to be the amateur that slid a $1000,000 (or whatever cost) car into a railing or in to another car................

Personally I think the mountain and the length of the race ensures a fairly even race. This is the only race I watch as the Ch7 telecasts are usually crap.
-
Used to be worth watching when the adage of "win on Sunday ,buy on Monday" could be applied and not just Ford versus Holden , was proper marque racing , when you had cars like a Mini Cooper S giving a Jaguar and Ford and Holden a flogging !
-
i lost interest in motor racing when they started taking safety into account.......i mean who needs brakes?
i'm hoping with everyone watching or attending the race I'll get Newnes all to myself ;D
-
I wish they would televise production car racing, that's about as close to the old days you'll get.
-

Certainly my bet for the win, proven combo :cup:
Go the Holdens
-
I'll be watching. ;D Its still a good race as its long and anything can happen. In a way its a shame the cars are purpose built racecars and not modified production - its basically a 1000km sprint now rather than having to be gentle and nurse a fragile production car to the end.
I think the best times on the mountain would have to be the 70's with the late 80's and early 90's close behind
-

-
I will be heading up shortly to watch the Touring Car Masters, these are the cars from the good old days. ;D
-
Murph on pole, I'm sure he'll find something to complain about by tomorrow.
Pity about the rain, looks like it will be a slow race tomorrow.
-
How did Norm Beechey go??
-
I don't think he got a drive this year :)
-
I have missed it all so far, what time does the flag drop tomorrow??
GG

10:30am
-
Well Brett and I were at Bathurst today - talk about 4 seasons in one day! The shower of rain in the shootout certainly put a cat amongst the pigeons. Can't wait to watch the big race up close and personal tomorrow! Go the Holdens!!! :cup:
-
Did you forget to wave Jillsy ?? ;D tried to spot a shiny head but couldn't pick out Brett >:D have a great day tomorrow, hope the weather improves.

-
Cant wait for the big race, will be a ripper with the unpredictable weather.
Well done to Murphs today, not bad for a KIWI ;D ;D and a bit of assistance from the weather gods :D
 BD
-
Hey Jillsy, are you guys (sorry, you're Queenslanders) are YOUSE guys camping at the track? How is it noise wise from other campers (p!ss-heads) and space and facilities? Am contemplating going there and staying maybe in the motorhome part.
Hope you have a top day tomorrow. Should be a blast! Hopefully the weather will behave.
-
Was there yesterday and today, watched the top 10 shoot out (bloody rain). Will be there again tomoz. One of the only good things about living in Bathurst.
Regards
Jas

Just been watching the Touring Car Masters. What a field, Seton, Bowe, Richards, Richards & Miedecke. Seton's XB coupe looks horn and his old man Bo has lost none of his engine building skill, that coupe had some serious curry down Conrod.
In the last 10 years only a 888 or HRT car have won bathurst (the Kmart cars of 03 & 04) were built and run by HRT), so here's hoping neither finish first.
Fingers crossed for the #9 SBR car or as a bit of an outsider, one of the DJR cars.
-
GO THE HOLDEN'S
-

Yeah 10% off the pace of the main game for an almost 40 year old car isn't bad.
-
love the old bangers and the new
Good to see the holden utes are still holding together ;D
-
GO FORD ;D
-
GO FORD ;D
X2
Cheers!
-
dont really care who wins worked with ford and holden teams
:cup:
-
Seeing how the Holden and Ford people can't deal with a 200 series cruiser giving them a run for the money >:D all I can say is go FORD ;D
-
Got a few mates racing in the big 1 today just want them to finish and stay safe :cup:
-
Bunch of girls in shopping trolleys, now Bathurst on a motorcycle, you'll really know your alive after a lap >:D
I watch the first 5 laps, then wait till they put a highlights package together, otherwise it's as boring as batShit, I love the tech side of it, the lead up, but that's about it.
I went there in 73 and 77 for the cars and 81, 83, 85, 86, 88 and 94 for the bikes, would never ever go to the cars ever again, too many ****wits >:D >:D >:D Holden V Ford what a joke >:D
Baz.
-
Gentlemen, Start your engines, :cup:
Or fill your trolleys ???

Hey POD
No not camping at track - staying with a friend who lives 20 minutes drive away :D
Campers appear to be having a ball!
-
Bernard smacks the wall and rips the fuel cell out
-
Jim Beam and a BBQ :cup:
-
Did you see that the fire didn't start at the car? I am wondering what would have been hot enough to start it where it did?
Didn't he prang it bad off the end of conrod straight the other year? If not him, can anyone remember who it was?
-

Cigarrete butt :D
-
Apparently a cameraman was covered in fuel...
-
Maybe part of the rear brakes.. battery or even the cabling that runs a long the concrete barrier
apparently the camera man and his gear were sprayed with fuel
-
sorry d4d my typing is getting slower to many cans
-
Yeah, saw that on the lens of the camera. I was wondering if it was the hot brakes but seeing as he'd only just come out of pit lane, I am surprised that the brakes were that hot already! I guess the rotors are still hot and not just the pads?
Are they not using a pure ethanol any more though? Have they gone back to a petrol mix?
-
the fuel is E85...85% ethanol 15% unleaded
-
I thought the splash on the camera lens was water from the tyre wall.
-

Ah...thanks for that. :D Well, amazing to see how it burns and at least it does have a visible flame when it does...good safety that even if it was alight. Had to admire the marshalls who went in with extinguishers blazing so to speak!!
I thought the splash on the camera lens was water from the tyre wall.
The commentators are reporting that it was fuel (and I certainly could believe that seeing how much did get dumped on the track) and seeing as it was their cameraman, I guess they'd know. *shrugs*
-
I worked with a few different supercar teams and use to change the left rear tyre with a full fire suit on just in case the guy refueling
splashed fuel over the top of me and the rear rotors
there would be 2 fire marshals right behind me
they do an awesome job
-
They should have used 6B&S in the 88 car :)

Would a dc-dc converter have solved their problems?
-
In an earlier shot in the pits they were using cteks to charge the battery
-
After this is over, I'm going to go Mow.
Same effects as really being there ... smell of petrol fumes ... noisey as all hell ... and I'll smell about as good as they do once I'm done.

True dat!!!!!!
Plus the Wallabies beat the Springboks
-
what camper trailer were they towing?
Now that is a thought....has some pomise...it would spark up the action a bit...CT's bouncing through McPhilimy at 215kph sideways...then over skyline...sideways through the dipper....
Damm, they could have used that on Aussie Top Gear...
I do admit, it has merit....
