Have just read some disturbing news from WA regarding digging a hole and burying you morning glory, it seems that it is now becoming a thing of the past, as some of the Shires and stations are not letting you on free camping spots unless you have a porter potty. So in the future if you havent got a enviro dunny with you things could get very difficult to make a deposit so it might just be well worth checking on before you travel to WA. Hi,
recently our 4wd club did a clean-up and shrub clearing at a free camping site on the East Coast of Tas (Friendly Beaches)
Now there are toilets provided there, not brilliant, but adequate.
The amount of 'doings' and 'bush daisies' we came across at the back of some of the camp-sites was, shall we say, exceedingly not pleasant. It is situations like this that I imagine is causing the push for 'self-contained' camping by those who have to deal with the unpleasantness left behind.
cheers

Noticed over the last fiew years that alot of the stations demand a chemical toilet, of some sort.
I think it is a good idea as all you need is a bucket and some chemical and preferably a seat on the bucket. And Buckets are bloody handy when at camp. :police:
-
There is a couple popular camp sites we use to go on Yorke Peninsula in S.A, where if you walked 5m from the campsite into the bush and just out of view of anyone there wasn't a piece of ground that hadn't been overturned. Some people clearly couldn't even be bothered digging a hole, with turds and toilet paper scattered everywhere.
So yeah, you can understand why some shires and councils are clamping down.

got my porta potti from an old couple in a garage sale for $5 just needed an O ring cause it hadn't been used for about 3 years, gave it a good clean with some disinfectant and stripped it down, replaced the O ring (cost about $2) put it back together and she's good to go :D in the morning if you know what I mean ;D got a popup tent and going to make an ensuite for our CT as we have a back door in our tent :cup:

Possibly another use for the famous Speewa's Pre Dug Fire Pit. Perhaps dropping them in the bush instead of on the road might lead to less of a spike in the "Unusual" road deaths category ;D

As some may be aware I work for NSW NPWS and in our camp sites with toilets, you find landmines everwhere ( sometimes even in front of the seat)including sites close to the toilets and this would be one of the more discusting things you have to deal with because it seems so unnecessary, You probably need to work at a camp ground to believe some of the things people do. ??? ???

Hi,
that is just WRONG!
It is disturbing that such a mess must have come from more than just one deviant individual.

What's wrong with Shitting in a shopping bag, throwing the paper in it and disposing of it with your usual rubbish? Nothing. We do it quite often. Who needs a chemical toilet?

I don't really see the problem. Unfortunately it comes down to the lowest common denominator. I guess I will be investing in a chemical toilet

Please do all those that use or service hybrid or composting toilets a favour if you do buy a porta loo get a biodegradable solution , the formaldehyde based ones that have been around for decades are what mucks up these toilets and makes them stink and formaldehyde makes it difficult to get the system back into balance, We will be looking to buy a chemical toilet at some stage but we will get a biodegradeable solution to put in it

Had a mate who cleaned a shopping centre... his worst area... the ladies loos. Initially he couldn't believe what was stuck to the roof and walls regularly. Some people are worse than animals.

There's a few threads on here about using home brand napisan in your portaloo. Cheap, has worked fine for us so far and is biodegradable. Same active ingrediant as biomagic at a fraction of the cost.

I brought one of these (20 Litre), for my daughter to use while we went camping.
Works well, but I wouldnt put the toilet roll where they have it in the pic, cause if it gets wet, it doesnt work!! >:(
Only downside, is that it needs a base on it, as it is just a bit short!!
Found that a couple of 4x2 made into a rectangle, with boards over the top. Makes this about the height of a normal toilet!!
Only brought this brand new for $99 from the local Mitre 10 store on special.
Thanks

Same this year every where. Why the lazy Barst&^%^%ds can't did a hole is beyond me. We found this type of thing at Frenchmans as well... Bl00dy disgusting and such a shame.

These inconsiderate mongrels are what stuffs it up for the rest of us >:( >:(

Wow, I cant believe just how bad that rubbish there is. I saw something not nearly as bad as that at Bribie Island and was furious. Why do people think they can behave like this.
Since Bribie I have always endeavoured to take away more rubbish than I brought. However, I do not have a dump truck following behind me so that doesnt solve the problem.
-
Realistically crap and toilet paper will break down whereas plastic and cans won't, it's still a bloody cheek leaving campsites like that for others. As for grizzly noticing the same even around toileted sites I have to say it girls. You are the main culprits for wimping out and not using public toilets like this. What is it with you girls?

Hubby did the same for our Porta Loo Dasnowman. Except the base forms an X, the pieces slot into one another and it cradles the bottom of the loo at each end of the cross. A little bit of slicing and dicing so to speak..lol Anyway this stops the loo falling off the base when in use.

??? ??? ???
I missed something there, but I'm sure its just cos I'm so tired..........
We bought a porta potty when we got the camper about 4 years ago to make it more comfy for the 2 x ladies in the family.
Since having one, I'm converted.
I still water the trees, as does my son, but the porta potty is clean, hygienic and despite what people say, does not smell.
Lots of threads on here about it and I don't see it as a bad way to go.
Sure its civil liberties etc etc, but we have to face facts. The joint is overcrowded.
Stop breeding or change your toileting habits. :police:
I get riled up about the nanny state etc, but in situations like this, its common sense (or rare sense as the case may be!)
I reckon when they introduce these rules they should also add that we can beat (with a really big stick) the fools that desecrate the landscape with litter.
Oops my soapbox just collapsed..........
Cheers all,
Brian

I believe excvator is referring to the cans in the gunshot pic.
An excellent point I might add! Well said.

fair dinkum, I am a nurse, and everyone gets so precious about using the can in the emergency dept, even when they have just had an MI (heart attack), but get people out in the bush, and they can literally take a crap anywhere.....we have been travelling in the camper, stop for a leak in the middle of whoop whoop, go behind a big hill of dirt, and can't even get in there to pee, for all of the landmines in there,.....seriously, has anyone heard of a shovel!!!!
