Has had the longest QLD SO career in history.
Not that I agree with it, but it's allowed :(
Commentary will joke about it, but no one will take the NRL to task over it.

why would they take the NRL to task over it??

he is a runner.  all teams have runners.

he's just done it for longer.

Many believe he's a 14th man.
He's out there to direct the players, no different to a halfback or fullback.

please. every team has a runner like that.

even NSW.

it has been going on forever.  Alf is an easy target because he has been doing it forever.

They are breaking the rules…..they are only allowed on the field after a try has been scored, during a time out called by the ref or when someone is injured.
But they don’t enforce it, so Alfie stays on and coaches the team.

not necessarily true...  this is from the operations manual.

c. Blue Trainer – (Messages)

i. The Blue (Messages) Trainer’s duties are limited to:-
1. Interchange of Players.
2. Provision of water.
3. Carrying messages to individual Team members.

ii. Is allowed access to the playing field:
1. When his team is in possession.
2. When a try has been scored.
3. While waiting for a Video Referee decision in relation to a try.
4. During a time-out called by the referee for an injury.
5. During a drop out.

iii. Must enter and leave the playing field without interfering with play.
iv. Must not give general messages to the Team or otherwise assist in the task of coaching (save for the carrying of messages to individual Team members) while play is progressing.

the bunker and refs can hear supposed 'team' coaching through microphones (bunker) or ref's ears.

considering Alf's 'reputation' in this area, i would suspect that ref's (both on field and bunker) would be on to it.

also, EVERY OTHER TEAM does the same thing.

No other team has a "runner" coaching the entire game like he does.
Forever = entire game.

got actual evidence of that?  other than hearsay and conjecture?

maybe go and watch the game again...  and make sure you don't confuse the different colour runner shirts, which have different roles.

you might surprise yourself.  also, be sure to watch NSW's blue shirt trainer as well.

I was at last nights game and I have to say the NSW trainer was on the field 95% of the game. To extent he was standing just behind the field of play with water bottles and running up giving the players water when possible.

While Alfie wasn't doing as much water, he was also on the field for 95% of the game.

interesting...

is that the blue trainer?

proves my point that Alf isn't the only one who appears to break the rules.

I wasn't at the game, altho I have attended a few Origin's in QLD.
To watch Alfie direct traffic, shout out instructions, he's a play maker, not just a water Boy.
The TV broadcast doesn't show how much involvement he has.

Now, We(NSW) Lost the game at the 20-40 kick, QLD just had way too much ball, 6 after 6.
It was a brutal game in the first 40.
Can't win a game parked in your own 40.

Never said he didn’t do it.

But to say he is the only one who does it is laughable.

No team brings it to the NRL, and the NRL don’t care that much, because every team does it.

No one said he’s the only one on the field, but he’s the best at coaching while on the field.

That's why he is singled out.
It's so bloody obvious.
Rod Wishart, another.

Yup... the runner is supposed  to run out instructions from coach, take drinks out durin breaks (drop outs etc).. pretty hard to get instructions if you dont talk to the coach for the entire game LMAO

i know who Rod Wishart is...

don't think he was ever a trainer... not for any length of time....

and certainly don't ever remember him copping the flak that Alf does...
