Happened to be towing a couple of months back with fuel prices at their peak and filling at Erldunda diesel was $3.14/L and I worked out that was costing me 49c/km. So I'm not surprised with this news and coming to a servo near you soon you'd reckon- https://www.msn.com/en-au/money/other/holding-charge-of-100-at-petrol-stations-set-to-be-rolled-out-across-uk/ar-AA11Gr9g
There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

The newspapers tried to cause a bit of panic when it was first announced here, but in practice it hasn’t caused any issues that I am aware of.

Many small town in country SA now have 24hr prepaid fuel pumps, saves them the cost of a wage having someone sitting on a register everyday.
