Evening All,
Sorry for the delay in updating you.
I did in fact get interviewed by ABC Capricornia (radio) and, unbeknownst to me, they did air the interview at some point after that (the journalist told me he would send me a copy of the audio and tell me when it was going to air but never did
). The Executive Manager of our Queensland Ambulance Service (who I work for) Media Unit did manage get a snippet (why only a snipped I'm not sure
) of the audio and sent it to me though. I had to convert and upload it to YouTube in order to be able to share it with you but this is the link:
https://youtu.be/FBmJX5g708gThe announcement of the 2021 Fred Hollows Humanitarian was made today via a zoom ceremony at 1pm QLD time. It was a really lovely event and I was absolutely in awe of the achievements of the other finalists. Their attitudes and efforts really have restored my faith in humanity. We are supposedly getting sent a recorded copy of the ceremony so I will post that up as soon as I get it so those who wish to can have a gander. A lady by the name of Alannah McGregor from Bendigo in VIC was announced as the winner
. After suffering the terrible loss of two children, Alannah has worked tirelessly over the past 19 years to raise awareness of suicide prevention and to de-stigmatise what was once considered a taboo subject. Alannah worked with other communities to create a campaign in central Victoria, promoting suicide prevention strategies. From this, the Suicide Prevention and Awareness Network was formed. Alannah helped establish Safetalk suicide prevention workshops with community groups, while also mentoring funeral directors, health agencies and bereaved families – using her personal experience to help educate others. What a woman!!!
A representative from the Fred Hollows Foundation told me via phone (off the record) that I had come a close second which I was really chuffed about as I don't even hold a candle to to the likes of Alannah IMO!
Thank you so very, very much for all of your support Swaggers and thank you for voting for me. I was (and still am) completely overwhelmed by the love and support that has been sent my way. This whole thing has been a really lovely experience.
Cheers!!!
My trophy for being the QLD finalist
