Joolca hot water...
« on: January 05, 2018, 02:27:45 PM »
I am going to purchase a Joolca hottap outing shower water heater to help make bush camping a bit more enjoyable.

Anyone who has one, or a similar type, could you please help by posting pictures showing how it is attached to the camper trailer (soft floor) or mounted for use.

I am going to attach the pump to the front of the trailer on drivers side.....

Here is my one, probably one of the most complicated installs I have seen (not that it's really complicated.) But that then means no setup either.

I just tie mine to the step ladder I carry and set it up beside the shower tent. Makes it portable.  I have a pump on the camper and another to pump water from a river. Only thing is you need a movable gas bottle. I didn't want to mount it permanent as don't know how it would go with vibrations of travel. Works for me.

We dont have the JOOLCA.
We have an AN-MENY unit similar to the Joolca style units ..    Nice and hot showers [ had steam coming of the water ] even with the late
afternoon  outside  winter temp of 19* C in the shade and a 20 knt wind blowing ..[ open air alfresco shower  ;D ] .
Ours is an 8 liter PM heater unit that provides a good [ though not as strong flow as home, but equal to the twine set up we had ]
Flow rates set at  40 / 42 deg C gives A nice hot shower, and is a bit over 4 ltrs per minute through the shower unit ..
At 8 ltrs per minute the water would basicaly be luke warm .
Heater unit is hung on a pole driven into the ground beside the ensuite shower with a 4.5 kg gas bottle underneath it
We   use  a 12 ltr pm pump and it empties a 25 ltr drum  of cold water in about 6 minutes ..
We use 4 x 25 ltr plastic water drums for ease of resupply and portability for the shower .
The pump either  gets hung on the bull bar or the shower unit pole and power for it is through the front mounted Aux power  anderson plug
If you wanted a bit more flow a 10 ltr p/m heater unit  might give a bit more,  this one works fine for us.
Though we did find it pays to recycle a bit of  water at first through the shower head to purge air out of and prime the heat exchanger so as you dont waste any water or get bursts of realy hot water till it primes, if its been empty for a while  .

I have a joolca, cannot fault them

I have a backer that mounts onto the spare wheel carrier, I set the shower tent up in front of the unit so I can adjust temperature and flow

The hot water is split between the shower and a tap in the kitchen

The cold water supply is split between the kitchen and joolca
Works great for me
Coldest I can shower in on a 30c day is about 36c which is still quite nice. Hottest is above 50c and that’s easily hot enough for washing up

I just carry a Star Picket , bash it into the ground near the shower tent and hang the hot water unit off the top .

Thanks for all the responses....

The unit has arrived and I will be using it at the Myall River Camp in a couple of weeks..

Want to keep it simple at this stage, so may just go with the star picket idea for now and add a t-piece so that we can use hot water in the kitchen...(Missus likes that idea.......LOL)
