Not everyone has $$$$$$$ lining their pockets, even more so the self employed that spend the money on the trip and then miss out on income during that time away... I'm not rich, nor am I poor, the latter because I try not to waste money! No need to budget to the dollar, a general idea of cost will allow me to save for the few months before a big trip so when the trip comes no need to hit the credit card!!!
We allow $1000/week, this is reasonably accurate for us on the few 3+week trips we have done, 2adults, 3kids including food, fuel, accommodation etc.
I envy the people that don't care/know how much their trips cost!!!
Fair enough - what you say makes good sense....
To get into semi retirement / semi grey nomad mode for 2018 - we're planning 1 x big $K OS trip, and 3 x 3 week caravan trips away....
Considering the van hasn't had one trip out all year 2017 because we've been flat out working - (grrr disgusted with me self) - 3 x 3 weekers will be a big deal for us, and something to look forward to....
We are budgeting 3 trips away x about 3 weeks each trip x about $150 a day.... = $9.5K ...simples...
We are hoping to do touring type trips, base camps in one spot maybe approx 3 days, and have an off grid set up....
I reckon if we're chilling around the campsite; just enjoying the scenery, doin some gourmet cooking, and movies at night etc - then the spend rate will be less then the 150 a day...
But we are allowing for that so that we can also take ourselves off to RSL type dinners, afford lunch on the road, sightseeing tours and souvenirs, coffee and snacks etc etc - at will and whenever we want to.....
