Yep, and if you need a new gas bottle they normally have a spot for old gas bottles at your local tip, just grab one and take it in.

yep exactly how i got 3 bottles a few years ago but i grabed my emptys from work (scrap metal yard) still have to pay for filling just not purchasing

Only place I have ever paid for a partial fill is Desert Dwellers in Alice Springs. Wasn't that scientific, they just pick up the bottle and go "oh yeah, that's about 1/2 full" and charge accordingly. Even though it was a guess, I was happy with it.

Rubbish, "swap n go" places rarely if ever check the dates, don't ask how I know  >:D

They don't care, part of the service they offer.

Is there really any difference in 8.5kg bottle that Swap and go uses and the 9kg I use at home? Do they fit the same 9kg mounting bracket?

Could be the difference in getting ya dinner cooked.

I use 4kg ones , and the holders on the front of the van only fit a certain diameter bottle. Yep, most are different sizes and it's why I don't do swap & go.
As with all gas bottles I own, I wait till they are 9+ yrs old, THEN do a swap & go with the right size ( diameter ) and with at least 8 yrs remaining on the date stamp.

The content of the gas bottle is worth nothing. It's the service that your paying for. Hence very few charge by weight.

As for Swap n Go. I let go along time ago gas bottle ownership. Given i usually only have that particular bottle for 6-12 months. Who cares what the date says, as for size. It can be a small pain, but the bottle holders have pretty big adjustment for diameter.

I, like Gronk, have a KK with the weird size bottles. When they were about to run out of date I took them to Peninsula Gas and Fuel in Rosebud, who checked them out and restamped them. Cost was minimal and certainly saved mucking around with mounts, or paying through the nose at KK for new ones.

The Trangie Caravan Park (NSW WESTERN DISTRICTS) does it by weight ... $2.50kg ... so an empty 9kg is $22.50, and an empty 4.5kg is $11.25. Thus any gas already in those bottles, you do not pay for twice.

But that's just one example. On my website there are hundreds of locations where you can get gas that cheap ... and cheaper ... as little as $12.00 for a 9kg refill.

The website is free service to the public, and I don't sell any merchandise or ask for email addresses. But I am scared to name the site in case the moderators ban me. As an 80-year-old grey nomad, I just want to help people save money.

I already linked it for you here and as davenmarcia points out, you may want to drop the "s" in the address in your signature.

So my bottle was last tested in 09 when it was new :D Dodgey little Asian bloke that filled it without even knowing what a date is, has closed the doors, so ... :(

Just called Supagas in Bayswater, $33 to have it tested, and refilled. Much cheaper than I expected!  Takes 2 weeks - or if they have one the same there that your happy to swap, they will swap it on the spot...

New 4kg from Hideous green shed $34.00 no gas and they don't fill em anymore LOL....

That same green shed will do a swap and go for $17.88, which will give you a full, checked and date stamped bottle.

They had a few different sized 4kg bottles when I swapped one of mine on Saturday.
Got what I needed, no probs.

Last time I checked, BCF still filled them.

The prices for swapping or buying a full bottle outright were on the cage.
Don't remember what they were. I just wanted to swap.
