I bought the Aldi version a few months ago for $20.  I recently ran out of gas and was surprised that it didn't provide very much warning.  It's also supposed to close in the event of a hose rupture so this feature is even more important.

As a safety cut off if the hose fractures they are a good idea.  As a gauge they are next to useless.  Yes I have one for the safety side of things, second gas bottle for when the first one runs out.

I’ve had one for about 5 years and works well. While the gauge gives an idea of how much gas in left I didn’t buy mine for that reason.

I bought mine after seeing a story on the news about some kids why got burnt while standing with their Dad who was cooking on the BBQ and something went wrong which resulted in a fireball severely burning all of them.

So I bought mine for the 100% Auto Shut Off in the event of a major leak as the fireman they interview with this story said this wouldn’t have happened if they had one of these safety gauges.

that's all I want mine for.. using the trailer couple of times a year never sure when it was filled last and how much was used... same as the home BBQ which the cyl doubles with the shed heater... not that sure how much the heater uses.

You might be better off with one of these? I had one a few years ago, and they seem to work pretty well.
The only catch is you need to be using the gas for them to read, as they work by detecting the temperature which varies between the liquid and gas in the bottle when gas is being used.

I have had one on a 9 kg bottle for 2 years. Works a treat. Only have a place for the one bottle so it is handy to know that you have enough to complete the cocking and keep the fridge running.

Pressure gauges don't work on LPG cylinders as a means of telling you how full it is as explained here-
https://www.elgas.com.au/blog/353-how-much-gas-is-left-in-the-gas-bottle

However that Gas Safety Gauge (or Gasfuse brand) is very handy as an overall gas system integrity checker and a blow off preventer as I discussed here in this thread-
http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=50549.0

As a system integrity check of my Jayco I can open the gas bottle and pressurise the system and then shut off the bottle again and leave it overnight and the gauge should read the same in the morning. If it doesn' t(and I observed that initially when I bought the rig secondhand) then I have got a leak somewhere and need to fix it pronto.  That capability is important with a piping system and appliances that I'm bouncing all over the countryside, unlike fixed appliances on mains at home.

Quest: How do you check the integrity of your gas system before every trip?

I have just install 2 of the cheap gas fuses.
Just needed an idea when gas may run out, hate to be having a shower and it turns cold😬😬
Or the roast in the Weber is only half cooked.!!!
Pretty lame isn't it when you have nothing else to buy.

They will tell you when the gas is about to run out. Roughly 2 minutes before it runs out. Before that, they will indicate somewhere in the green area, dependant on ambient temperature.

I have one of the ultra sonic types, have found it to be temperamental on small cylinders.
