Hit me with your best packing and storage tips

We will hopefully be getting our brand spankin' new Swan in a couple of weeks.

When packing our soft floor camper, we tend to chuck everything in boxes or bags. When we set up, we have the intention of keeping everything in its place, but usually by the end of the first day there is crap everywhere.

We have two of those camp wardrobe things- we usually use one for non perishable food and the other for the family's clothes. We will probably keep these under the awning of the Swan. Shoes usually just get chucked anywhere so might have to think about where to keep those.

Crockery- do you use plastic stuff, or proper crockery?

We will have a lot more storage room in the Swan and I want to make the most of it.

Will have two tables outside- one for eating at and one for food prep.

Just because you have the cupboard space doesn't mean you have to or can use it. You need to be mindful of weight. We have a 14ft OB Expanda with half full cupboards because I don't want to be dragging 2.5t just because I can. A lot of our crockery and other food equipment is plastic or melamine.

We use the plastic boxes on wheels - 3 across the back of the camper and accessible when the kitchen is open:  "Safeway"; Kitchen; and "San Remo" (should now be BWS...or similar) which also contains spare toiletries/tissues/etc etc; The fold up chairs, tables and fridge stand all fit on top of these boxes when the camper is packed.   The porta pottie, washing bucket full of things like pegs, washing powder and toilet chemicals are accessible through the side hatch.  Things like the annex, annex poles, spare tarp annex flooring require the camper to be opened which is only twice per stay - when we get there and when we are packing up.  Clothes bags, wet gear (rain jackets), boot bag and fridge are all in the back of the Patrol.  We have "precious boxes" for each of us...any medications, personal items on the floor behind the front seats.

On my old Jayco finch I utilized wire wardrobe baskets and made up out of ply and routed timber a draw runner setup that was fixed to the ceiling of camper. Before traveling the basket can be loaded with clothes etc in your home. When travelling the baskets sat on the seats. At camp the basket are placed in the ceiling runners. They were located over the bench top out of the way of banging heads, not that it is an issue as the ceiling height combined with not being tall helps.
This achieved the result of a tidy camper. Only issue was the kids couldn't access their basket

Yes similar concept but mine was far more "sophisticated" than that. Fashioned out of some pine painted in Dulux left over paint and white wire basket with "special" effect plastic coating chipped on most edges.

For extra storage space for that bulky family stuff that seems to clog up everything, get some vinyl or canvas bags made up that hang from under one of the bed ends once set up [ good place for the broom / rake / kids shoes / toys etc ] and another small enclosed tent section under the other bed end to tidy up bikes / boogy boards / tubes or spare bedroom for  kids or yourself if in trouble etc .
