Looking for my virgin dualcab ute.

I'm in the market for a new second hand ute. I've never owned a ute so can't comment on any of them. Had my heart set on a Hilux but after some looking leaning towards a d40 navara. Havnet looked at other models but happy for the input.
Got a budget of around15-16k has to have less then 200000kms and 2006 or later model which is why i ruled out the hilux basically as hard to find.
Hoping to build it into a tough tourer that can cart my family of 6 so will need to be able to fit a bench front seat( I know the hilux and navara can which is why in leaning to the navara) hold a couple of bike on the back and tow a camper. Also something I can have some fun with in the bush with the family or mates.

Most of its time will b spent on the road carting bikes around either in the tray or in a trailer and lugging the kids around on weekends. It won't really get used during the week. The wife has her own car to drive during the week.
It will only seat 6 on the occasions we go away as a family which isn't often so happy to squeeze everyone in on those odd occasions. The wife works every weekend so we don't all get away very often.
Has to b diesel and and manual also.

I just bought a D40 for $17k. 2007, 130k. I wanted a dual cab that I could get into the back easy enough, and didn't want to pay out for a new shape Ranger, BT50 or Colorado. For the same money a hilux was another couple of years older, or 50,000 more kms. Older Ranger, Nissan D22, older Colorado etc were all too small in the back.

I have been warned about the D40 failing clutch and also the timing chain, but decided to jump in anyway. We have an R51 pathfinder and have been happy with that so far, which helped sway the opinion. Another thing to watch with the older D40 is that the low spec models (RX and ST) only have a lap belt in the centre back. Only the STX has lap sash, which was important for me with kids in the back.

Don't know how you'd go about fitting a bench seat in the front, never seen it done, but not knowing

Well picked up my ute last Friday nite. While it looks good I'm not a big fan of it at the moment so will see if it grows on me.

$16000 2010 rx d40, 3" lift, 33" tyres, 3" exhaust, snorkel, 125ltr long range tank plus standard tank, winchbar with a cheap eBay winch with no rope or wire though. Mite see if it works and bolt it at the back of the car.

Didn't have a chance to go see it before I had to settle the loan payments and since the bloke was gona drive it hrs to meet me assumed it had to be alright to drive if he was doing that. Stupid mistake and won't be doing it again

It has a problem. Not sure if it's boost or fuel related. After getting it home it was a dog on take off and need 2k or more revs to take off. Blew heaps of white smoke on start up and heaps of black smoke under load. Turned out it had injectors replaced but they hadn't been coded, so mechanic coded them and that fixed the off idle issue. Now it throws a turbo high current sensor code over 80km/hr and used 25ltrs/100km on a recent trip I did towing a trailer and 2 dirt bikes. It says it's over boosting but the ecu says it's max boost is 22psi which is standard. Lucky it has warranty and is at mechanics getting fixed free of charge at least.

Blimey, that sucks. At least it has a warranty.

I've just put a tin of diesel purge through mine as it was stalling on idle or under no load. Seems better now, but I did initially wonder if I'd bought a lemon.
