Well that might explain why the staff at check in I noticed put her initials on my 2 voting sheets...   effectively linking my votes with her check off book / electrical roll??....

I thought at the time - how does that make the voting process totally anonymous and democratic; aka...  welcome a gulag 1950s style USSR....

Actually that squiggle was your initials in code.... absolutely linking you to that ballot paper..... you're screwed... should have done like me and voted for the pirate party.....

The papers are issued by the role checking person.
You have to be on the role to get the papers.
For the papers to be valid, they have to have the role checkers squiggle in the corner.
No squiggle, not counted.
You then go off to a nearby location and complete the papers as required.
They should not be able to see or record your choice, even though you are still within their view.
Once you complete the papers, you then place/insert those papers into a ballot box with everybody else's.

Did you sign those ballot papers with your name address and phone No.?  I hope not.
That's the only way, unless you get them to help you fill out the ballot papers.
Then you get the Deceased people who still vote from beyond the grave, good trick if you can get it done.
Did you use a pencil to fill out the forms, I hope not.
So much easier to change a pencil mark than a ballpoint pen or felt tip pen/marker vote.
Appreciate the intelligent response. ...     one thing with Mr Squizzle ...  ( eer the pencil to record your vote...)..

I think that is legislation; or a rule or something like that. ..

The use of the graphite is to prevent the loss of (an historic) vote; through the ink of a quill; or early pen; fading to grey....

For the trolls - historic here means a vote at anytime -(1901 to 2006 etc) -  more than say 10 years old.....

Well that all backfired on Turnbull, less of a majority than he went in with. Welcome to the minority running the country, won't that be fun.

You can use your own pen (pen of any kind or pencil etc).
Reasons for the pencil includes cost and reliability apparently.

And no one is going to borrow a pencil.  The pens would last the first hour

I would borrow the pencil as bugger me I am always looking for a pencil when in the workshop.
I guess there is some foreign company that has the contract to supply the pencils for the election and another contract to supply and tie the string to the pencil.

I guess if one's brain thinks hard enough it can invent a foreign conspiracy in even a simple pencil  ;D ;D ;D

I was amused to hear the headline A nation divided! on two of the TV news shows on Sunday.

I wouldn't say we are divided, I'd argue the nation was more united than ever. Both sides failed to make an impression, so we voted for the mob we hated the least, or an independent. if only there was a 'None of the above' box to tick

We are also united in asking What the hell were they thinking?? ??? of all those that gave Pauline another seat.

Something of interest from channel 9

http://www.triplem.com.au/sydney/stuff/pub-talk/2016/7/laurie-oakes-hilariously-took-the-piss-out-of-sportsbet-on-the-election-coverage-last-night/

Wonder how many of these they got?

Oh that's gold
My favorite clever quoted sort of relevant.

Cleaver Greene: You know what my first act will be when I run this country?
Melissa Partridge: Make threesomes compulsory?
Cleaver Greene: Okay... uhhh... my second act will be to abolish five day weather forecasts and publicly execute those who give them.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Only problem with last night's MW was how it demonstrated yet again how biased the ABC is....

Why  why  why no mention of Labor's election day texting blitz to "save medicare"...

I thought using telecommunications carriers to transmit this (political) stuff would have been part of what a programme called "Media Watch" .. would have wanted to discuss??  ...unless the comrades in the office said no - then how biased they are...
