Sounds rather impressive!

Heavy thunderstorms continue to push northeast, with further development expected, particularly areas between Imbil and Nambour.
Around 50mm has been recorded around Jimna within a 60 minute period.

Yep, drove right through the middle of that southern one on the way home from our family night at the movies.
Kind of reminded me of driving around up north every day between mid January and March... ;D
We got about 40mm at our place, wouldn’t know it looking around on our 5km morning walk this morning. Just another day in paradise... ;)





Oops, sorry, I mean it’s bloody terrible up here. Victoria is so much nicer than this hell hole....

Finally a little bit of info about the Brisbane radar ongoing outage...

“In the meantime, southeast Queensland has overlapping radar coverage from Marburg, and also Gympie to the north and Grafton further south.

“The composite nature of these national systems allows forecasters to monitor and predict approaching weather even in areas where there is little or no radar coverage.”

Yes, but you only put out a foreguess twice a day, at 4am & 4pm - not much use to everybody trying to see where the rain is, how heavy it is, how long they've got before it hits, & so on :'(

The 4am is generally a copy and paste of the 4pm.
Apparently the all of actual edumicated ones left in there only work on the day shift.... ;D

Don’t blame the bureau though. Thank our cyclist friend that famously said “science is crap”....




Oh yeah, we’re just about to tick over 50mm for today and it’s still bucketing down here.

I see Bribie beach camping is currently closed due to this cyclone / future low pressure system.....there was no beach to drive on several weeks back when we were there with the big tides, was right up to the dunes, they reckon tides could be even bigger in the coming days.

Wife just showed me a post of the beach conditions from a Happy Valley Resort staffer .. Memories of 2012 .. Oh well looks like there will be lots of exposed rock up there again for our  July trip .

Townsville dam levels.

This time last year 15% full.
As of 6pm today 190% full.
Fingers crossed it doesn’t get to 300% full which is apparently the trigger for some pretty drastic action.




Looks like we might not be able to call it Brownsville for the next year or so.... ;)

Gave my ex next door neighbor in Idalia a call this afternoon as I still own the house and have it rented out. The water level isn’t a threat yet but who knows what will happen over the weekend. But it’s fully insured so the most I have to lose is the excess I guess. Others are/could be in a much worse situation than I am.

The dam at is currently at 215% and still more to come.

My cousins have been evacuated, the creek beside my sisters place is getting close to bursting and she is cut off from getting to my other sister’s and brother’s houses.

Some of our Townsville swaggers may have more accurate details, but I’m hearing stories about the army possibly having to take drastic action on the dam wall if the levels get too high.

Townsville is one of those special places, while it is in the wet tropics it doesn’t really get proper wet events all that often. It’s times like this when we see how poorly the city is able to handle proper rainfall.

Hope everyone up there is safe and things don’t get as bad as some are predicting.

pretty much same rainfall we’ve had here in our area of Brisbane...driest December on record ever and SFA in January thus far also. Had a couple of very light showers the other day and this morning, but nothing in the guage as such here.
